I've seen similar posts and threads, but nothing exactly the same, so I'm starting yet another thread about this.

I'm on Lion, 10.7.5 and Safari 6.0.1 and Safari won't even go to youtube. The address field just clears and returns to what it was before. It's like it thinks youtube doesn't even exist. I read that resetting Safari might work. I tried it - no luck. I made sure I was opted out of the html5 trial that google/youtube is running - no luck. I opted in and installed a Safari extention that converts youtube videos to html5 - no luck. I had to do both of these in other browsers, by the way, since I can't even get to youtube using Safari. I've quit Safari and restarted it. I've restarted my computer. Nothing changes. What else can I try?

The kicker is that I switched back to Safari from Chrome because Chrome eats up too much of my CPU. I had switched because of annoying problems with Safari and now it seems that the problems I'm coming back to are even worse.

Someone mentioned updating to Mountain Lion but I really have no interest in it due to the user interface updates.

    1. Install Adobe Flash Player.

        http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

    2 .Are Plug-ins Enabled?

        Enable Plug-ins

        Safari > Preferences > Security

        Web Content:

Click in the box for "Enable Plug-ins".

    3. Check  whether you are currently  in  YouTube HTML 5 trial.

         http://www.youtube.com/html5

At the bottom  left of the page  uncheck the box for

"You are currently in the HTML5 trial".

    4. Reset Safari.

Click Safari in the menu bar.

From the drop down select "Reset Safari".

        Click "Reset".

    5. Turn off Extensions.

        Safari > Preferences > Extensions

         Now try YouTube.

I noted that you have opted out of HTML5 trial.

    Hope this helps.

I've done all of those things except disabling extensions, which I have no desire to do. Current browsers are clunky dinosaurs without the extensions.

By the way, I was opted out, now I'm opted in because I tried to use an extension that converts all youtube files to html5. Neither one is doing any good.

I think I'm just going to have to use multiple browsers for different needs. Which is pathetic, but you gotta do what you gotta do, right? Thanks for the help though; I appreciate it.

No worries, Pumbaa. Jump right in. Anything to keep the discussion alive. I doubt very seriously at this point that a solution is coming. I doubt Apple has any desire to fix it. But hey, one never knows.

One funny thing I have noticed is that I can play you tube clips that are windows in other sites.

Hey I fixed my youtube and google issue today.

But The fix was a bit of a funny one.

The user name and pass word I hand in the network router were wrong. Correct it and everything works fine.
