Well, am in the processo of moving my old Mac Mail to my new Mac Pro. I have a 1/2 dozen accounts, and a couple dozen mail boxes to sort all the mail.

I read that the user name needs to be the same, so my user name is exactly what I have on the old mac. I copies the Mail folder from my user account, and the com.apple.mail.plist, and the com.apple.mail.plist.vNeyqEZ file, whaterver the heck that is.

All seemed well with all the old mail showing up and all the mail boxes showing up, but I was forced to create all accounts from scratch, it did not bring that over.

1. All my drafts are showing up as blank, can't access them.

2. When I rebuilt my main, most important Inbox, it deleted all the prior mail I imported.

Questions.

1. How do I get back the mail that is no longer there after the Inbox rebuilt.

2. How do I get my drafts to show up?

I would rather not start from scratch, as I would loose all mail that came after I backed up.

Can anyone help?

What type of accounts are these and what version of OSX are you on. (Old and New)

Types include POP, Imap and Exchange.

I am using PoP for my 2 mail business, and gmail uses imap

Old is iMac running 10.6.8, new is Mac Pro 10.8.2

What else do you need and why would the old imported emails go away when I rebuild? I still have the old computer and the back up. I need all my emails.

    Thanks in advance.

Did you locally archive any of the Gmail or is it all in the server folders?

For the POP accounts export each mailbox to an MBox file and then import them into the new machine.

For the iMap I need to know the answer to the question.

If your email is crucial it is wise to keep backups (additional to the originals), relying on remote servers and plain good luck doesn't always work sadly.

First, how do i quote somethign in my reply? I don't see how I can do that. I get a Reply button at the bottom of your post, yet I can't quote you. Any help?

I don't care about the iMap for now and its working fine.

What I care about are my main POP accounts, which I use to run my business. I use time machine and the are backed up. I still have mail running on the iMac and won't delete it until Iget this working.

I'll try your export method to see if that works and report back. Will it override the newer email that has been coming in this weekend?

Well, am in the processo of moving my old Mac Mail to my new Mac Pro.

And just how did you try moving??? DId you use the intitial SetUp assistant?

Setup assistant is best first time you turn your new Mac on, have firewire cable ready.

    Thanks for the quote help.

I did rebuild and they all vaporized. Only post move emails were showing up after rebuilding my main email account.

    Where did they go?

I did a export from old computer and just imported it in new of that inbox mbox file. It only went back to Dec 2012, and I have emails from 2007.

I need them all to be exported. Why do you think it either did not export all or import all? How can I get all my old emails to export and import?

If there are any subfolders they need to be exported individually, beyond that I have no idea, if I export a mailbox to an Mbox file I get all mail inside it (but not subfolders).

Did you set your copy of Mail to remove the mail from the POP server, or leave it there?

    Maybe you start over.

When you start up your computer and select From another Mac on the "Do You Already Own a Mac?" screen, SetUp Assistant  will be asked to choose a migration.

    otherwise Migration assistant:

Well, 2010 is better than nothing. There are no sub folders in that mailbox & I'll try again.

And I don't store on the servers because 90% of the emails are crap junk and get deleted & why waste perfectly good storage space on crap.

    Thanks

Try the export again, if there are no subfolders you should get all the contents. (Just remembered, if the mailbox is very large it may be exported to multiple files, check for exports with a number after the name)

Otherwise restore the TM backup to the new machine, and export the current mail for safekeeping, just in case.

Hahahhahahhahahahahahhah. NO. There is no way on earth I am starting over. I don't want any of the permission problems and other problems causing sbbod constantly on the old iMac with multiple accounts by migrating, and needed to start fresh with just one account. Csound1 has at least helped me get the last two years of emails and I'll live with that.

I did try another export and its showing up as INBOX.partial.mbox and i notice it says to watch for multiples if its a big inbox, however there is only 1. I have over the years put many emails in different folders, but it's my Inbox that is not exporting all the emails. They go back to 2007 in the Inbox, and the emails that are in other mail boxes are in their respective folders. Not seeing any other partials. Can anyone tell me why its showing partial and only archiving 2 of 6 years of emails? I would love to find a cure tonight & I'll buy anyone who can help me a nice Belgium Christmas Ale if they can help me with my dilemma.

    Thank you & Merry Christmas

That's why I am having problems, I hit Rebuild and all the imported emails from when I moved over the Mail folder & preferences vaporized. I am afraid to hit rebuild on any other emails for fear of them dissapearing.

Why on earth would my emails dissapear when I hit Rebuild? Has anyone had a similar experience? I just want them back.
