Those are old manuals. These are the ones you are looking for.

The OS X Server (Mountain Lion) Advanced Server Administration Guide

    https://help.apple.com/advancedserveradmin/mac/10.8/

Yes, thanks (had it confused with Snow Leopard 10.6). Still has old stuff though, like about monitoring XServes with an app...? Perhaps because you can still use with XServe? I would love a GUI interface. Sadly that no longer exists.

Did you play around with the files before the error...? This might be somekind of permissions issue. Open Disk Utility and Repair the disk then Repair permissions.

I did not play with any files in the past, simply had an old versions of Server installed and I think it was 2.0 or 2.1 which started having the Wiki errors, though not enabled.

Have recently run and repaired the disk while troubleshooting another drive's permission issues. Tried a repair permissions, now that I have done the other steps you indicated, which did not work. Several ACL errors were found and fixed, particularly with Users/.localized, Users/Shared, Users/Shared/.localized.

Verified the startup drive. It is OK. Still have the same error screen in Server.

I left server open overnight and it quit with an error screen. Is servermgrd closing/reopening a clue? Here is a link to the file.

    I read the log:

    server.local collabd[62081]: [CSServiceDispatchHTTPRouter:120 854d000 +0ms] Caught exception "Connection to DB failed" [CSDatabaseError] executing Request{SessionService.currentOrNewSession()}:

It seems it has trouble connecting to the db server.

I read something the other day about multiple postgres installs and how Server 2.2 had trouble upgrading since somekind of port changed. There were issues with Profile Manager or something... maybe it's linked to this.

    Read here:

Even if that were the case, I have no idea how to check for it, or fix. Do you?  The links you referred to are quite vague and not a direct solution to DB Server.

I can't replicate the problem hence can't come up with a solutin... but the past week i've been knee deep in OS X Server and this is what has the closest relevance to your problem.

Yes. Apple's lack of support seems the real problem. I'll search further, thanks.

Henry, you posted on https://discussions.apple.com/message/20580801#20580801 asking whether your issue was related.  It could be.  Do you have a 3rd-party installation of PostgreSQL installed and running on your system?  That is what affected the original poster of that thread and others.

    Hi Henry,

Sorry to hear of your trouble.  Can you please attach the contents of /var/log/system.log from the time between opening Server.app and seeing the "Error Reading Settings" message in the Wiki service?  The Wiki service logs are in /Library/Server/Wiki/Logs and will help diagnose the problem further.

Another thing that will help will be the output of running the following in a terminal window:

    sudo psql -U collab -h "/Library/Server/PostgreSQL For Server Services/Socket"

... after which you should get a Postgres prompt, and you should type:

    select * from global_settings;

A final set of steps that will help us narrow things down are:

    sudo serveradmin status wiki

    sudo serveradmin status postgres_server

sudo ps aux | grep collab

    sudo serverctl list

    Thanks,

    Andrew

Your thorough list of research ideas is very interesting. I will look into each one, but it may take some time to gather the info yourequested. Rest assured I will post the results here, so feel free to follow this thread. Will try to do on the local machine and save to a file that can attach here.

I cannot run any of the sudo commands in Terminal. When attempting any sudo command in terminal locally, I get the following message:

sudo: unable to cache user root, already exists

    Why would this be?

Only login from remote works as mentioned previously. In that way, only results were from sudo line shown below:

[BubbaMacPro:/] bubba% sudo ps aux | grep collab

    bubba           2410   0.6  0.0  2432768    620 s000  S+    2:31PM   0:00.00 grep collab

Can you run each of these four commands individually and provide the output?

    sudo serveradmin status wiki

    sudo serveradmin status postgres_server

sudo ps aux | grep collab

    sudo serverctl list
