Messages won't let me sign in using my Apple ID.

I verified my Apple ID on the apple site and its working on my iphone and ipad flawlessly.

But when I try logging I get:

Could not sign in to iMessage

The server encountered an error processing registration. Please try again later.

I tried my Apple ID @me @icloud @mobileme etc... everything I could think of. To no avail.

So I tried logging in changing the account type to AIM but using my Apple ID / @me account, and it worked.

But it doesn't let me use a iMessage account still. I've never even used AIM, why would it log in using that account type

and not iMessage using my Apple ID?

I went to AIM/AOL and triend logging in to see if I can end whatever it was that I supposebly had, to no avail an account doesn't even exist with AOL/AIM.

I just want to use my Apple ID and password across the board on all my apple products, please help.

    HI,

Since iChat version 1 can out Apple Issued IDs have also been Valid AIM Screen Names.

Originally (At the time) this was @mac.com names.

It now includes @me.com names and the new @iCloud.com names

However you do need to keep the password to 16 characters or Less as this is the AIM server limit.

So and Apple Issued Apple ID is also a Valid AIM Screen Name.

AS OS X 10.8.2 it seems that the "Registration Process" for the iMessages services involves a Check on the Serial Number of the Mac.

This can be missing if the computer had been repaired or Refurbished (the engineer is supposed to replace it on any new Logic board).

It can be seen in the About this Mac panel if you click the OS version line twice.

It can also be seen in System Information app > Hardware.

If it is missing then contact an Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider.

I checked and my serial # is there. My macbook pro was actually refurbished and I later swapped it out at the apple store due to a dead pixel on the screen. So now its a new one... So I won't be able to sign in to iMessages using my Apple ID? It will have to be my Apple Id under the "AIM" account type only?

    Hi,

The Apple ID should work for both iMessages and for AIM.

My everyday Apple ID is based on an old Dial-up account I had.  (I can still fetch mail from it)

Just over a year ago I linked this to an iCloud Account and go the @me.com address.

The @me.com name works as a AIM Name.

Both work as iMessages Accounts   (I use one on my main iPhone and the @me.com name as the Apple ID on a second iPhone).

The Original Apple ID does not work as an AIM Name.  (it was not issued by Apple).

Make the Finder the "Front" App (in the Menu Bar)

Use the Go Menu > Go to FOlder and type in ~/Library/Preferences into the Dialogue box that appears.

IN the Preferences find com.apple.imessage.bag.plist and com.apple.imservice.iMessage.plist and drag them to the Trash.

Restart Messages and try adding you Apple ID again for iMessages

Quitting Messages, deleting com.apple.im* (five files) from ~/Library/Preferences, killing imagent, and starting Messages over again did not help. Deleting the AIM account that also used my @mac.com id didn't help. (And as I said elsewhere, taking away /etc/hosts didn't help. There was nothing funky in it anyway.)

Oh, and there's nothing wrong with my serial number.

Have you used this Apple ID on an iPhone or iPad ?

I should have mentioned that. Yes, it has worked fine for years, and continues to work fine on both my iOS devices.

    HI,

Messages on the Mac and the Messages on the iPhone do tend to use the same Internet ports.

This seems to be  a possible that you have not looked at yet.

Some people have found that adding Public DNS server (or two) to System Preferences > Network > Advanced Button > DNS Tab has helped.

I use two from Google 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

Next check the System Preferences > Security  and Privacy > Firewall.

If ON then unlock the padlock and use the Firewall Options button.

In here "Allowed Signed Software" should be ticked and Messages and IMAgent should be in the list (The system should add IMAgent on restart)

Follow that with checking your Date and Time and Time Zone settings.

If the iOS device is having issues Sending or Receiving at home then also check date and time on the router.

The "Allow signed applications" box was not checked. I checked it. "imagent" (all lower case) was in the list. I added Messages and FaceTime, which weren't in the list.No difference.

As I mentioned in the new thread I started, I did try this will the Apple firewall turned completely off.

My iOS devices work fine on the same wireless network behind the same router.

All clocks are automatically synched and correct.
