Q: download by clicking the iCloud download button

The Apple publicity says ...
On a computer, any songs stored in iCloud will stream over the air when played, though you can download them at any time by clicking the iCloud download button. iOS devices will start playing tracks from iCloud as they download and will store them so that you can listen to them later even if you don’t have a network connection. Apple TV only streams songs.

I have loaded my entire iTunes library on my IMac to iCloud with iTunes Match. (successfully completed)

Now I want to download (not stream) the entire iTunes Match library (including iTunes non-purchased music) in the iCloud back to my IMac iTunes library (to benefit amongst other things to better bit rate recordings) but cannot find the "the iCloud download button" on  iTunes on the iMac.

What have I not understood in this process ?

Can somebody tell me how to download the iCloud music to iTunes on an iMac ?

many thanks

Stuart

Go under FILE, then select all, then control clic and download. You can download your full library this way.

    Keith,

No, you don't. In the top bar select the iCloud icon to sort by iCloud status (Downloaded/not downloaded). Everything which has not been downloaded will appear below anything which is already on the computer. Select the top track then hold Shift and Down to hightlight all non'downloaded music. Hovering the cursor over the blue items, right click and the top option in the menu is 'Download' - click this and your computer will start downloading all tracks! If this reply is too late for you I'm sorry, but hopefully it will help someone!

Keep them on your hard drive if that's what you want, nothing is stopping you. As for rights they are as they always were, you bought the right to listen to the song, you don't own the song.

    Hello,

i understand the frustration/confusion here.. i would like to have the upgraded sound tracks on my computer just as tomwestwater would like:  i paid for it, so why not?

but what is frustrating is the iTunes interface to get this accomplished.  a simple one button click to "upgrade library" would be so much easier to deal with.  instead, i have just found out, i must hightlight every blessed song in my library; delete them, but not from the cloud; keep the file; and then download all these songs again.

i used to be a programmer before i became a technology manager.. a simple set of instructions to perform what i've outlined would be about 10 lines long....  shouldn't be too tough to create.  and since these are now DRM free, all the better...

but what do i know.. i'm just a user getting more and more frustrated with apple interfaces by the day due to their lack of capabilities.

Actually for me when I highlight all the songs with the cloud icon and then right click, there is no DOWNLOAD option. There is no download option either in the File section. When I go to delete the files which are in a grayscale font it only says do I want to hide them. NO.. I want to download them. I cannot play them in itunes..

SO is there something I'm missing?

I've found a way for this.

Just go to Songs or Albums tab on iTunes, a select all the item. Then right click -> Download.

This will download everything, and save you lots of time while trying to download on at a time

    Better late than never.

    Peace

In the new 12.2 iTunes, right click and check "make Music Available Offline" - works great (I think - still in progress).  Thanks Mavs82

Yeah!  This did it for me.  I wasn't finding the download option at all.  "Make available offline"  Thanks.
