I agree with the above posters that it's not just wi-fi. I have done all of the recommendations and essentially almost relegated my phone to that of an ipod, but the drain is still bigger than before the upgrade. For instance, when I speak on the phone with all background apps closed and all internet off, I lose about 1% of battery life every 1-2 min. When I turn on an app, same thing happens, regardless of the app really. So other things have been impacted.

Same thing here battery drains even in airplane mode thinking 6.0.2 messed up the battery meter.

I thought of that ToyGun1 (wrong battery indicator) and wished that was the case.

That is unfortunately, however, not true.

    a) the phone actually runs hot from the extra power usage and

    b) it really shuts down and really dies off if you don't plug it in...

I also agree it is not related exclusively to wi-fi. The phone's back being very hot to the touch has also happened when connected to LTE with wifi turned off.

How did you downgrade to iOS 6.0.1? Apple didn't seem to allow signing of it yesterday through iTunes.

I upgraded to the IOS 6.0.2 when it was released and didnt notice anything at first - but in the last day or so my battery life on the iphone 5 has plummeted!  It dropped from 100% to 91% in about 2 minutes and all I did was read my emails!  Usually at the end of the day it is at about 60% with a days reasonably heavy use.  Now after 4 hours it is down to 28%!

I have an ipad mini and it has not been affected and the battery life is great on that.

I updated to this new software yesterday.  I normally have 40%+ battery life at the end of a work day.  Checking E-mails, facebook, playing music ect...  with the new update I took it off the charger at 7:30am and it is 2:12 now.  I have 28% left.  I check it at 1:30pm and I had 36%.  It has been in sleep mode since then and I have lost 8% in less than an hour.  What the heck is going on.  Is there a way to uninstall the new update.  I had no issues before and now it ***** like out of my device.

McGyver18 -- I am not entirely certain what those starts in your post stand for but the feeling expressed entirely resonates with my own. I'm trying to roll back to 6.0.1 right now and I'll let you know if it works out.

Thanks for the help.  I would be very interested to find a way to roll back.  Disapointed in Apple lately.  This is the fouth un-related issue I have had with them in the last few weeks.  Not sure what changes they are making internally but for the first itme in 5 years I can honestly say the Droid phones are looking more apealing.

Well, this is interesting.  I reported, like some of the others here that after update to 6.0.2 my battery, which had been well behaved started to discharge rapidly and as many reported the battery got quite warm.

My phone ran flat a couple of times and that did not clear the battery drain.

Yet, today, inexplicably it seems as though my battery is "normal" again.  So... I am suspicious that perhaps 6.0.2 caused some kind of re-index of everything on my phone and until this process was complete my battery was being burned up.

So far today I've been out and about, used my phone a bit and had a 20 minute phone call on it.  Six hours after disconnecting it from the charger it is still showing 80%.

I'm not 100% convinced it's "fixed" but it's almost like something reset and it is back to behaving again.

    McGyver18 -

Update as promised: downgraded fine to 6.0.1 with no data loss whatsoever.

I posted an 11 step how-to for the process but Apple have removed my post as it is against the terms of use.  They really frown upon it to avoid fragmentation... Google is your friend though (and not just for maps that work).

I am outraged that Big Brother Apple removed your useful post on how to downgrade.  They create a problem, and then those who try to help alleviate that problem are censored.  Really terrible.
