Click on the apple on the left side of the menu bar, then about this mac, then more info, then system report. Go to Serial-ATA and look at the link speed. This will tell you what your system will support. Most likely your system will support SATA II 3GB/s speeds.

i have an ealy 2008 macbook 2.4 ghz
can i support a 6g ssd or just a 3g ssd?
Your MacBook4,1 has a 1.5 Gbp/s Serial ATA (SATA) interface. You can use 3.0 Gbp/s SATA drives in it, as they will fall back to 1.5 Gb/s. Do not use a 6.0 Gbp/s drive in that system.
For the record, I use an Intel Series 320 in my Mid-2007 MacBook2,1. Bloody quick!
