Sorry to burst your RED bubble but i got myself the silver one.

This is the first iOS device (2 Touch's + 2 iPads) which arrived with the battery fully discharged (so much for setting it up w/o iTunes .

Connecting it to my Mac Pro it took around 40 minutes for iTunes to finally recognize it. Charged it overnight, disconnected and left it on my desk as i had things to do. About 4 hours later, batt. indicator was already down to half.

Did a Restore, then plugged it to a USB wall charger. Overnight again, disconnected, and did the loop a song bought from the iTunes store. Within 6 hours it was dead as a doorknob. This puppy is going back.

I won't be happy though if I get a recoditioned one as a replacement seeing that i bought this one new just last week.

Ok look, the iPod touches battery isn't supposed  to last all day, if you have had an iPod touch before you probably already know this. The devices battery isn't supposed to last as long as an iPhone so just because it only lasts you 6 hours on wifi that's actually really good, because from my experience on my 4g my battery last 4 hours of constant use, maybe a bit longer, on my 5g it last about 6 or 7 hours of constant use. Using the Internet destroys the battery people. When they say that your iPod can last for up to 8 hours on video playback, well when your on video you aren't using wifi.

Disagreed. My iPod Touch 4G could easily last 4 to five days w/ wifi on (Push enabledfor 1account, rest if Fetch manually) with normal use (some music, audiobooks and ocasional surfing).

As for this new 5th generation: freshy restored (no apps from my account0 I set it on looped music at 1 AM this morn, no wi-fi, no configured Push accounts. Checked it this morning around 11 (remeber 40 hours ifs the stated duration) and again it was dead. This is one is most certainly faulty.

Well that's bull, not even an iPhone could last that long on wifi, much less an ipod though 4g

Here's a clue, not everyone uses their device as you do. You prefer spendng half the time charging, hey have at it. But if I see that even Apple's battery test is failed by this Touch then it's faulty.

Get a battery app that shows the adverge time and test it to see if a battery replacement is needed. It would cost $80 if your not under warnty.

Fortunately (or unfortunately) it's a brand new iPod Touch 5th generation received last week. But I will definitely search for that battery app you mention, thanks!

Others have had this problem.  Try resetting the iPod, letting it go down to the red, and then fully recharging it.  This has worked for some.  If you still have the problem, make an appointment at the Genius bar at your Apple Store.

I have had exactly the same problem. I was so happy with the battery life on my 5th gen (after replacing my 3rd gen). I mostly use my iPod Touch for podcasts, checking emails/facebook and some Skyping now and again.

I installed the latest iOS just before going on holiday about 2 weeks ago and it's been unusable as a mobile device. I have to keep the iPod plugged into my laptop to use it otherwise I lose the full charge in 10 minutes (or I can Skype for about 2 minutes). I've gone from being a proud owner to a really unhappy one. I've just reset the iPod and I'm currently restoring it to January settings to see if it fixes the problem. If not, I'll be sending it back to Amazon for a refund and I'll see what Samsung has to offer for a similar price. I paid too much for this to spend my own time fixing it.

There is no "Battery Usage" button per se on your ipod 5G:

    Goto:

Settings --> General-->Usage, then scroll all the way down where you'll see "Time Since last charge"

Note this is on iOS 6.1

I highly recommend returning it. I returned my ipod a few months ago when it started acting up, and let me tell you, it was the best decision I made.
