Q: RAW files and iPhoto

Is there a way that when I try to import photos from a camera that has both RAW and JPEG files, that I can get iPhoto to distinguish and download only the JPEG (since it doesn't seem to support RAW)?---right now it just gets stuck on the RAW and doesn't just skip over them.  I am used to using Microsoft OS and Photoshop Elements---do I really need to upgrade to Aperture?

MacBook Air, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), Leica V-Lux 1

no - and upgrading top Aperture will not help - both iPhoto and Aperture use the same RAW processing

You camera is supported by iPhoto - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5371 - what version of iPhoto do you have?

My suggestion is to shoot just RAW

iPhoto does support Raw from a wide-range of cameras, and the same range as Aperture does. If your camera is outside that range then upgrading to Aperture will not help. If you're shooting with the V-Lux 1, the Raw on that is supported on 10.8. What version of iphoto do you have?

In the import window, uncheck the Raws and choose to 'Import Selected'.
