i have been trying to organized the columns (left to right) so that, for instance, the size of the file and the pixel dimensions of the file show up right next to the name. i have been doing this in an Album (at least today) but i have not been seeing this "stick" as i seem to have to do it every time i open Aperture and need to see this List View in an organized way.

can anyone help me with what i am not understanding here or what i am doing wrong?

TIA

    Re-arranging the columns in list view does not appear to stick between invocations of Aperture and I know of no way to alter this behavior.

    This does seem to be something that you should be able to do. I'd suggest using the Aperture feedback (Aperture->Provide Aperture Feedback) to let Apple know.

    thanks frank.

    i will do that.

    i thought maybe i should put in a line as to whether someone could help me make sure i wasn't slowly losing my mind while sorting my database.

    this is definitely a bug IMHO.

    great help. thank you.

    hi frank.

    i would like to take out everything except pixel size and file size and i am forgetting where this happens or what it is called.

    THANK YOU

    I believe you want View->Metadata Display->Customize

    When you use View->Metadata Display->Customize,

    to select the columns to display in list view, as Frank Caggiano pointed out, you can also configure the display order of the list items. Just drag the items in the "Display order" pane into the order you want. And this order will stick between restarts of Aperture, at least it does this in my version. So use this panel to arrange the columns, rather than dragging the columns around.

    BTW: if you configure the display order also for the Browser view, and select to show the filesize and pixelsize first, in the metadata overlay, you can display the images with the filesize shown in the Browser.

    Afaik, this is where the column order is customized.  Select either of the "List" options from the dropdown.  Select fields to include as columns from the outline on the left; order the selected fields in the pane on the right.

    Léonie,

    Right, I thought I remembered a way to change the order of the columns but when I moved them in the view they didn't remain that way.

    You're post tickled my memory, this is the way to do it.

    ah i see. a very powerful and helpful place to get into. looking forward to ordering the display of my Viewer metadata so i can make the FILE SIZE show up first. this will be very helpful.

    so just so i understand - i am in the View > Metadata Display > Customize section and i have a pulldown for:

    View >

    Viewer

    Grid View

    List

    Metadata Tooltips

    and i also have

    Metadata Fields:

    EXIP

    IPTC

    Aperture

    Audio/Video

    Photo Usage

    Custom Fields

    and in order to sort the order of the COLUMNS (left to right) in list view i select LIST VIEW > EXPANDED and then i select IPTC because it shows the /most/ items that can show up in Column List View is that right?

    also, what does the selection for METADATA TOOLTIPS again please?

    also, what does the selection for METADATA TOOLTIPS again please?

    Are you asking what Metadata Tooltips do? If so when they are enabled placing the mouse over an image will bring up a small window with metadata information. The metadata the is displayed is configurable from the Customize window we spoke of above.
