These apps are not necessarily actively in use, open, or taking up system resources. They will instantly launch when you return to them. Certain tasks or services can continue to run in the background.

Dec 27, 2012 11:15 AM in response to Coralkid53by Coralkid53,Thanks for that, but my 200 mb that I never went over with my Iphone 3, went from 200 to 200 to 1500mb and the AT&T guy said that was because of the apps at the bottom, that they are still streaming.

You could close the app when you're not using them if that makes you better about your data usage. Open the multitasking menu, tap and hold the app until it starts to wiggle and tap the symbol that appears. I doubt that it will make a differance but the guy at AT&T knows best.
