Apr 5, 2006 6:27 AM in response to eek!by TwoThree,I am assuming if you can put the old G3 into firewire target disk mode, you will be ok.
Attach a firewire cable to both Macs,
Restart the G3 and hold down the 'T' key,
Run the migration program on the G5. -
Apr 5, 2006 6:57 AM in response to eek!by Glorfindeal,If you can put the old G3 into target disc mode (hold the 'T' key while restarting) then you won't have any problems. The old mac is probably formatted as HFS and OS X won't have any problems reading it.

Apr 6, 2006 3:43 PM in response to Glorfindealby eek!,hi guys thanks so much for your input.
i think the problem is i do not have a working monitor on the g3. i have tried firewire target mode starting up from the g5--when i do i get the firewire symbol but no desktop or mouse or anything else. when i try target mode starting up the g3 holding the T key with g5 already on nothing happens--no g3 hd icon appears on the desktop or anywhere else.... -
Apr 6, 2006 6:37 PM in response to eek!by Glorfindeal,Your post is a bit confusing. When you go into firewire target disk mode, you effectively turn your computer into a firewire drive. All you do is connect the computer to another computer via a firewire cable. So, if you start the G3 in target disk mode, just connnect it to your G5 and the disk from the g3 should appear on the G5 desktop.
