Dec 27, 2012 5:24 PM in response to Paulp3by Frank Caggiano,Was the Aperture 3 an upgrade or a full version? If it was an upgrade you will also need the original serial number(s) from the earlier versions of Aperture.
If it was a full version then have a look at Troubleshooting Professional Application Serial Numbers

Dec 27, 2012 5:31 PM in response to Paulp3by Paulp3,It was a full trial version. Once I tried Aperture out on the trial version I loved it, so I purchased a full version from the app store. I was given an activation key for the trial version.

Dec 27, 2012 5:39 PM in response to Paulp3by léonie,And how did you transfer? What installer did you use? Not a download from the App Store?
Reinstall using the Trial version installer, if your activation key comes with the Trial version.
Download here the Aperture 3.1 Trial.

Dec 27, 2012 5:42 PM in response to Paulp3by Frank Caggiano,So did you look at the link I posted?
If it was a full version then the activation key you have is the serial number needed to authorize Aperture.

Dec 27, 2012 5:48 PM in response to Frank Caggianoby Paulp3,Sorry Frank. I guess I am getting old
I will check out your link. Thanks!
Yes it was a full version. But the activation key didn't work. After the transfer (via time machine on a external drive) it says the number is invalid.

Dec 27, 2012 5:51 PM in response to Paulp3by Frank Caggiano,Well give the link a try, you'd be surprised at how many times the serial number gets messed up when it is entered.
If that still doesn;t work try Leónie's link to get a fresh version of the installer and try again with your activation key. Note if this second method does work you will need to make sure you upgrade Aperture to the latest version via software upgrade as the download will be an older version of the program.
good luck

Dec 31, 2012 6:28 PM in response to Frank Caggianoby Paulp3,I tried Leonie's suggestion and reinstalled the trial version and put the activation # in it and it worked.
I now have a full version on my new iMac that works.
Thanks to all for your help!
