Now, the 27-inch iMac delivery is set up to January. That's because of supplying problems, so Apple can't say a specific day. You will be notified soon

I would not hold your breath. My custome IMAC was ordered on 30th November and while since then it claims to be delivered next week there has not been a single update to the status or progress since the order was made and paid for.

Adding to Mende1's post, not only have there been production problems but I understand delivery depends on your location. Some people in the USA recently claimed they'd been notified of imminent delivery through shipments via Alaska.
So there's movement somewhere.Mac OS X (10.6.8)

I'm sorry you ordered a Mac on December 25/26/27? And you think it would be delivered, or even shipped, before January?
If I'm not mistaken December has 31 days in it in which the last week has 2 of the biggest hiolidays of the year in it. So what is the problem with January delivery when odered at the end of December?
You do have an option. Buy something else.

A bit harsh perhaps - the OP only asked about the wait time for an indication, there is no comment there critical of the time. Let's face it not everyone may be so familiar with release times for new Apple kit.

You are right it is a bit harsh. But Really.

Have a lot of sympathy to be honest. Apple has been showing 'January' for 3-weeks or so now and still does. If so what about those who ordered on the 5-10th December (and beyond) who have 'January' as a delivery which is the same as had you ordered today (28th)? You can assume by this it means Apple has 3-weeks of orders or so that they intend to deliver by January so why not split it out by week to give at least some indication.
If they are producing in order then there should be a better indication than just a month...

In further reply to the original totally reasonable request for some indication on realistic dates.
Custom machines ordered on 30th November now seem to be shipping. mine changed status in the last couple of hours although apple have not emailed me at all yet. The estimated delivery date however is not until 8th January making it around 6 weeks between order and arrival (assuming all is well and this is for UK delivery)
However in saying that there will have been a peak order around the time of mine so you could reasonably expect that the timeframe should reduce a little as time goes on. I would not hold your breath waiting for it to arrive in January, but you get it shipped next month..

BB, any word on your machine? I just ordered a custom 27 yesterday. Curious and impatient!

You will just have to remain patient.
The model, customisation, country, city, courier and supplier will all affect the delivery timescale of machines.
