You will most certainly have iMovie, every Mac ships with it, why not try that?
Any other currently available applications will need a minimum of Intell Processor and Snow Leopard, your Mac may be outdated for these applications.

of course footage from GoPro can be edited.
GoPro records in mp4 (h264) the files are transfered from the camera to the Mac and then converted with MPEG Streamclip, for iMovie to DV stream, this is a well established procedure.

1- it is for Snow Leopard and above
2- the OP is looking for Editing software, CiniForm is a prep application.
