My iMac wi-fi keeps dropping out intermittently.  Sometimes, I can trace it to the router, but sometimes, everything else stays connected to the router, and only my iMac drops out.  I can check 'speed test' app in my iPhone4s through the router and it is still working and connected, but the iMac has dropped off.  It usually will connect back up, but sometimes takes 2 tries to get the job done.  It is starting to get annoying in frequency.

The iMac is about 1 year old now.  This has been happening recently.  I suspect trouble in my airport extreme card, but don't know how to check it out.

Any ideas?

I am having the same issue.  When the wi-fi drops out what color is the LED on the AirPort Extreme?  I have traced mine to the router I believe by PINGing it.  When the wi-fi icon goes grey the PING times out.

When you say the Airport monitor showed yellow (amber?).  Is that on the AirPort Extreme (router) or is it the AirPort Utility?  If it is the AirPort Utility what color is the AirPort Extreme LED?  You state the iPhone was connected just fine, but was the iPhone using the internet through the cellular signal or through the AirPort Extreme?

Did you try PINGing the router while the monitor shows amber?
