I rented a movie on iTunes via iPad with the intention of watching it on AppleTV later at home. Why isn't this showing up in my account on AppleTV?

I rented a movie on iTunes via iPad with the intention of watching it on AppleTV later at home. Why isn't this showing up in my account on AppleTV (or in  iTunes on my computer for that mater)? Apple promotes the rental service as being able to allow viewers to watch, start/stop, content on all account related iOS devices.
