Hi All, I tried the solution above, however, all of my purchased apps are requiring me to repurchase them. Any thoughts on how to prevent this from happening?

This wasn't my experience and I've read from others that they were also able to redownload their apps for free.

If you launch the app store on your phone and tap on the Updates Icon on the bottom right you should see a screen with a curvy down arrow in a circle and next to that the word Purchased. On the right is a > tap on that. Now you should see a screen which has 2 tabs, one says ALL and the other Not on This Phone. They're probably the same as you've no apps after your reinstall. Next to each of your app names is a cloud with a down arrow. You click on the cloud and the app starts to download. I can't remember if it prompts you to enter your Apple ID password but in any case you don't have to pay for the apps you've already bought. If this doesn't solve your problem let us know.

Glad to hear at least one person is seeing the results Apple promised.  Gives me hope!

That's exactly what I'm doing.  Keep returning until I get a good one.  And if after the 4th one it's no good...I'll have to decide whether to go back to a 4S or switch to Samsung.

This is disgusting.  It's good to know I'm not alone.  (turning in my 2nd phone tomorrow).

I did the same but it didn't fix my problem .  And it was a pain restoring all of those apps, I tell you.  This time I backed up to iCloud and will use that.  I'm going to get my 3rd phone tomorrow

My post above about restoring the system and getting good (actually great) results was with 6.01. I didn't upgrade to 6.02. As with many of these problems there can be multiple different problems with similar symptoms. It sounds like 6.02 brought a new dynamic to the battery drain problem. Sigh

I've visited the Genius Bar today, explained the problem to the Genius and my phone was replaced within 5 minutes without arguing whatsoever, props to Apple for that. I got a new one with 6.0.1 and so far I think that the battery performance is great, I started using it right out of the box without charging. Phone arrived with 66%, haven't done a full recharge yet but so far right now i've dropped to 35% after 8 hours, out of them I assume at least 2:30 are net usage, don't have statistics yet. And I've used the phone A LOT to set everything up again, downloaded 40 apps on Wifi, setup all my accounts and browsed a lot. Wifi has been on for the entire time, BT off, location services are on for selected apps, notifications are enabled for the neccessary apps only since the genius explained that even if you don't have any notifications, just having the app in the notifications list means the phone is checking for notifications on a regular basis and this can consume quite a bit of battery power over time.

    I do have 2 questions:

    1. I asked the Genius if it's ok to keep the phone plugged in overnight and he said that the longest you should charge it is not more than 6-8 hours and less is recommended because the longer it's plugged in the faster the battery will run out. This conflicts with everything I've read about Lithium batteries. It was my understanding that these batteries can stay plugged in for hours because when it reaches 100% the charging circuit is disconnected and the phone simply draws power from the socket to protect the battery. So who's right here? The Genius or what I've read online?

    2. Siri, should she be on or off? I have BatteryDoctor and it says in one of the tips that she should be disabled to save power. However, it puzzles me how having Siri on without using it drains the battery, does she work in the background? I don't use Siri much, mostly to check the weather every day and match scores sometimes, but it's nice having it on. Should I disable Siri?

    Thanks

Like you I'm under the impression from my reading that Lithium batteries aren't bothered by being plugged in for too long, providing that they're fully discharged at some interval. If you never let the charge run down my understanding is that your battery's life time is reduced. I think if the Genius dude was right about the 6-8 hour rule it would have been picked up by Gizmodo or Engadget or other such site.

I keep Siri on all the time. I'm not sure if Siri is frequently checking for location but what ever battery juice it uses my 6.01 iPhone 5 gets phenominal battery up time with Sir lefti on. I also frequently forget to turn Bluetooth off without it degrading my use experience. I do have my screen turned down to about 40% if 50% is normal.

Thanks for the speedy reply. So you say it can be left on for charging for 6-8 hours as long as I make sure to drain it from time to time? No problem there, do you keep yours plugged in overnight as well?

About my phone, I've set it up as new of course, only synced contacts, and using the exact same settings as my old one, leaving Siri on for now and I'll make sure to keep track. My previous phone was 1.5 months old, the one I got today is probably 1-2 weeks old since it left the factory so if there was a batch defect or something I assume it has been resolved in the one I received today.

Hopefully I'll be able to get good usage out of the battery, I can't just visit the Genius again as I'm in the UK now and I live in Israel where there's no Apple store... And mu free support ends in a month so this is it for me.

How many hours of usage are you able to get out of your phone? Do you reach 8?

I have tried this and it did not help.  I even went to the apple store and they restored my iPhone and I had no apps on and tested to see if it was either the apps or os draining battery.  I'm still getting bad battery

I didn't know that if Siri causes battery drain even when not in use. That wouldn't make any sense. I have done a lot of tests.

    1. Deleted all apps set up has NEW at apple store

    - tested to see if the apps were draining battery because I would always close the apps out in the multitasking bar.

    - results = battery life was still drain very fast on IOS 6.0.1 and still on IOS 6.0.2

    No difference.

    2. Switched everything off, I mean everything from no mail accounts, Siri off, no apps, no LTE everything.

Battery life was still running down  fast but I got a little bit of improvement.

    Results= inadequate.

I've has two iPhone 5 replacements and I'm still not satisfied.

I always leave my phone charging overnight since I got it. It's definately plugged in a minimum of 8 hours a day. Perhaps this 6-8 hour rule takes awhile to show itself but personally I'm not going to alter my habits despite the genius comment.

My usage is currently 2 hrs 16 minutes of usage time, 10 hours 29 minutes of Standby time and my battery is showing 80% charge left. That feels typical. Had my usage time been 5 or 6 hours the battery would probably be about 50% used is my unscientific sense of it.

Hi All, I have had my iPhone for a few days know and the fix for me was shutting off location services when I did not need it as well as the device's wifi when you were not intending to use it. I now average about 9.5 to 10 hours of battery life with heavy usage (9-10 hours of the phone not in standby). When I turned on location services, my battery drained very quickly. And the battery lifespan was cut down to about 6.5-7 hours of direct usage (not on standby).
