Mine does the exact same thing. I notice it when I'm coming out of a wifi area. It's like the phone won't reconnect to lte from wifi. I even had my first iPhone 5 replaced because of this issue and now the new one is doing the same thing. Very frustrating.

What version of iOS is the device running?
Have you tried Settings > Reset > Reset Network Settings?
Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Has any of this been tried?
Who is the carrier? Have they been contacted to rule out network issues?

I don't know about the OP but mine is on 6.0.2. I have contacted AT&T and they took me through the resetting of network settings, I've reset the phone as new and from a back up, both phones actually. It makes no difference.

I'm on 6.0.2 as well and the problem was happening before this update and after. Im with AT&T and I know it's not their issue. Ill be out fishing with buddies and one has a droid and the other has iPhone 5 as well with AT&T and it will be working for them but not me. Same thing when around my wife with her iphone 5 as well on the same account. She has notice the same thing with her phone from time to time. I have not tried resetting network setting but will give that a try.
