My friend got a new phone number so I deleted her old one and replaced it with a new one under her contact. But when I go to type in her name to send an iMessage her old and new numbers show up with her name associated with it so I don't know which number is the old and which is the new. I deleted everything I could associated with the old number and even deleted her as a contact and re added her with the new number but the old number still shows up. Anyone know how I can permanently remove the old number?

tap on the contact you want to delete and then tap the Edit button on upper right corner

then go to the last . you willsee DELETE CONTACT option .tap on this to delete the contact permanently and then add your new contact again

You can not delete it completely, unless you want to do a factory reset. Someone I know called Apple about this, and this is what they told them. The only way you can completely delete a contact out of your phone everywhere, is to do a factory reset and then use icloud to resync your contacts. I wish Apple would change this, and do a major update! I've had my iPhone 5 since the end of Septmember, and this is the only thing I dislike about the whole phone, period. Maybe if enough people complain, they might do something about it? But, I doubt it! Goodluck!
