This is not a server related issue - our studio has several G5s running 10.4.6 + Photoshop CS2 and they all crash even when saving to the desktop. I've also tried repairing disk premissions and downloading and installing the Combo Update but without any luck. Also, this only appears to be a PowerPC issue - Intel Mac's seem to be fine.

The Adobe Security Patcher for Adobe Photoshop CS2 seems to fix the problem (ie Photoshop CS2 crashing when saving in OS 10.4.6).

    It's available here:

Thanks for the tip, i installed it, did a new start,
but photoshop CS2 still crashes after saving to either the server or my hard drive (G5).
I havent had the problem with other Adobe products (indesign or illustrator) just photoshop.

    Hi,
if you first copy your files to the desktop, then open and save these files to your desktop, you will hopefully be successful.
If your psd-file is on your server and you try saving it on your workstation's desktop, photoshop will crash.

We are having the same problem with the intel Imac's on the Sun server It's OK if you work local on your hard drive but crashes if you work over the network. We have 60 Mac's in 2 locations and the only one's we are having a problem with are the one's on 10.4.6. Our plan is to reformat and go back to 10.4.5.

i fixed my problem with this fix. got this from group logic it also posted on macfixit.

I downgraded the AppleShare client software on the Macs to the version
that shipped in 10.4.5. I replaced these three folders with the older ones:

    /System/Library/Filesystems/AppleShare
    /System/Library/Frameworks/AppleShareClientCore.framework
    /System/Library/Frameworks/AppleshareClient.framework

After repairing permissions and restarting Photoshop no longer crashes.

hopefully apple will have an update soon.

Thanks for the path of things to check. In my system (where all is working) only the first folder changed anything with the update, and that was specifically two files, named afp_mount and check_afp. Nothing else was modified with the update in these three locations.

I had this same problem. I used the Automatic updater to install the update originaly. But I went back to the downloads section on the Apple site and downloaded the updater directly and then reinstalled it that way. Photoshop works just fine now when saving to a server. Hopefully this will work for you guys too...let me know.

    Lapebo,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Not sure what the problem is with your software. AFP is still supported. Could be a port issue on your Firewall.

Since I think your issues is more to do with networking, I'd post a question on the Networking board:

Macintouch today has on its front page:

    http://www.macintouch.com/

    a report by Bryan Schappel:

    "
This is a warning and a fix regarding the recent 10.4.6 update.
My company uses the Mac almost exclusively. We use Adobe CS2 and Office 2004. Against my better judgement I installed the 10.4.6 update (via the Combo Updater) in order to fix the problems with Office. This was a success. The Office users no longer have their issues. However, my Photoshop users were ready to riot.
We use Windows 2003 Server with ExtremeZ-IP for file sharing. After the update my PS users would open a file off of the server, do their retouch and save the file back to the server. Once the save completes Photoshop quits. To make matters worse the Crash Reporter also quits so I can't find out exactly what crashed. For some users Photoshop crashes after each save, for others it crashes one out of three saves.
I spent several hours this morning trying to find out what was crashing and finding a fix. Here's what works so far...
I downgraded the AppleShare client software on the Macs to the version that shipped in 10.4.5. I replaced these three folders with the older ones:
    /System/Library/Filesystems/AppleShare
    /System/Library/Frameworks/AppleShareClientCore.framework
    /System/Library/Frameworks/AppleshareClient.framework
After repairing permissions and restarting the Mac Photoshop no longer crashes.
    "

This page may be updated later or put on a subpage of Macintouch's website. If you see what subpage of their website it is on, please post it, as that would help for future posters to know where to go to get the help.

Note, since I don't have any Adobe products, I can't verify this works. Someone else in here may find this useful.

The solution provided on Macintouch and Macfixit (same solution of replacing AppleShare files) doesn't work for everyone.

After replacing the files and running repair permissions, I can't even connect to servers at all. I had to revert/upgrade back to the 10.4.6 versions of those folders just to get back on the server.

Problems with Adobe InDesign crashing using the Package for output feature have also come up after the 10.4.6 update.

This is not a firewall issue, or an Adobe issue. The problem is with the update - hopefully Apple will fix it SOON!
