i have windows 7 installed on a first generation mac pro (this apparently involved some minor work arounds that included burning something to a disk in order to get it installed on this particular machine) and i seem to be finding that windows 7 goes through an update procedure that never seems to quit.

it starts with a do not shutdown alert and says loading package 1 of 3 or something similar. this usually never completes, crashes or i have to manually restart.

so a boot into windows starts with the windows did not shut down correctly error.

does anyone know where to go or how to troubleshoot this?

thanks for any advice

other info: i had an issue with booting into windows that involved my external G-Drive so i shut down this hardware before booting into windows and my recollection is that i normally leave this device off until after i get into mac OS (it's my Time Machine backup).

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.4), 64 bit Win7 in Parallels | iCloud
