Hi - would anyone know how to install a Canon LBP 3050 mono printer on to a MacBook Air (OS X, 10.7.4)?

I have an old driver cd-rom but it isn't recognised by the Mac.

Any help MUCH appreciated!

Download and install the CAPT v3.55 driver. The documentation included with the download details how to add the printer.

Hi Pahu, i tried to download the capt from link given, managed to install successfully.

    But failed to print.

Im running Mac OS X 10.7.5 and Canon LBP 3050.

The printer status shows that it is printing and 'Sending data to printer', in fact the printer didnt respon anything.

something i missed on the configuration perhaps?

Can you confirm that the LBP is connected to the Mac via USB cable.

Can you also open an application called System Information, which is located in the Utilities folder under Applications. In the left column click on Printers. The right section will show the LBP3050. Select this to see information about the printers connection to the Mac. Please copy this information and paste here so I can check what you have set in your Mac.

Thanks for the confirmation and system info. I can see the cause of your issue is due to the print queue, which is shown next to the heading of URI. Your connection starts with USB but a correctly configured CAPT queue should show something like "cnbma://". So you will have to open Print & Scan and remove this current printer. Then open Activity Monitor and look for a process called Canon CAPT Backgrounder. I suspect you will not have it listed, which results in the print queue not being created correctly.

Working on the premise that you do not have the Canon CAPT Background process running, open Finder and navigate to HD > Library > Printers > Canon > CUPSCAPT > Utilities and double-click the file CAPT Backgrounder. Nothing will appear on the Mac but if you check Activity Monitor you should see the CAPT Backgrounder process. If you do, open Print & Scan and add the printer again. The print queue should now have been created correctly and you should be able to print.

    Hi PAHU,

It magically works, great help!! Appreciate that..

    Thanks a lot.

anyway, do i need to run this Canon CAPT Backgrounder each time i restart the machine?

Good to read you got it working.

The CAPT Backgrounder should start automatically when you log in. But for this to happen, the file "jp.co.canon.CUPSCAPT.BG.plist" should exist in the folder HD > Library > LaunchAgents. If the file is present but the Backgrounder is not starting then you could have something stopping it. This could take some time to locate the cause so it may be easier to create a desktop shortcut to the application and start it manually after a restart.

    Hi Pahu,

Yeah glad to see the printer is working fine now

Anyway the file is exist at LaunchAgents folder and as your suggestion i copied the Bacgrounder file to make it easy to be executed each restart.

Thanks and keep up your good work.

    Happy new year!!!
