Never leave your phone on during a movie - you're at a movie, shut it off (seriously, no matter which brand.)

    Usage 4h 12m; Standby 8h 52m; Battery 30%

Basically, ~240m of usage consume 70% of the battery; in other words, 2.9% every 10 minutes.  This can't be right.

"Usage" is counted as when you're interactively using the phone.

The balance of the time the phone is continuing to stay in touch with the cell tower, be available for incoming SMS messages and phone calls and, depending on your settings, poll for email.

The only time your iPhone is truly doing nothing is when it is off.

Having about 30% battery after 13 hours with about 4 hours of actual use sounds right to me, and is about what I experienced with my iPhone 3G, 4S and 5; my original iPhone would rarely go more than 11 hours of use and standby without the battery falling into the red.

Also note that being connected to an LTE network uses substantially more power than a 4G one, and that the lower the number of cell bars, the more battery will be used to keep in contact with the cell tower.

reducing the brightness is a temporary solution to stop draining very fast.. no one knows the permanent solution.

Sorry William but you are not correct.

It is not 8+4=12. The phone had not been detached from the plug for 12 hours. It had been detached from the plug for about 8h (started at around 6 am and was about 2 pm - I hve the screenshot anyways).

By way of example, I have just unplug the phone from the charger at 5:53 am and it is now 6:10 am. I have used it continuously and it shows 17 m of usage and 17 m of standby. The two numbers tick up in unison.

    It is thus not additive.

And by the way, I've lost 3% just reading your message and typing this response.

Something does not compute with how this phone uses the batter. Never happened with the 4 or 4s.

I'VE SOLVED THE BATTERY DRAIN PROBLEM On My iPhone 5 iOS 6.0.2!

    Purchase history:

I just got my iPhone 5 this week (Dec 23, 2012) after deciding to use a customer appreciation email from the president of Rogers Wireless Network stating all fees would be waived (including upgrade) plus he would include a $100 Shopping Channel gift credit! I got to the store and discovered there was a further $50 rebate, which means I made $10.23.

    BATTERY DRAIN PROBLEM & RESOLUTION:

I got the iPhone 5 16GB. I used iTunes to restore all my Apps and files. I noticed a battery drian that was way out of whack! (along with something else) I erased all content and settings then restored with iCloud. Same thing, no change. I did all sorts of stuff to figure out who was the culprit. I have narrowed it down to removing all Gmail accounts from Mail. My gmail accounts were the only emails that would fetch. All the others would have data pushed. My settings for notifications, brightness strength were set to normal and I used GPS to locate a coyote in town, along with 2+ hours constant internet use at doctors' office, etc, etc. The battery drain was similar to what my iPhone 4 would have used, possibly even less, even though it needs more energy to power the larger screen.

    Exact Culprit:

Whether Gmail is the culprit or the fetch feature, I don't know, but the fetch and gmail on my iPhone4 with iOS 6.0.1 is not an issue.

    Additional Issues:

Other issues that I am aware of with the iPhone 5 using iOS 6.0.2 is the fact that sometimes it will not charge when plugged into the computer USB port and even the 120V wall outlet. I would have to unplug and replug it in.

    Regards,

    Slavko

PS:  WOW, is this LTE FAST!  I've clocked download speeds of 37Mbps, and upload at 29Mbps via www.speedtest.net.

Ut's either the power cord connector, the iPhone recepticle, software mess up or interference.

Why Apple (host) removed my identity link is a good shareholder question, though.

Does your unit power off unexpectedly when plugged into the wall?

PS for Apple (host):  I read the agreements for becoming a consumer member on this site to solve problems with your product.  I do not believe I violated any rules by posting my link button.  You should have the professional courtesy to explain why it was removed and which rule, if any, ws violated.  It kinda seems similar to the judge blatantly stating, "yes, Samsung uses your patents, but I will not enforce the law".  How would you like to have your homeostasis out of whack because of two to four hormones?

GMatteo is right. The Droid Razr Maxx and Razr Maxx HD have by far the best battery in them and still is surprisingly thin and more durable when dropped on a hard surface than any iPhone. Android is always on the bleeding edge of technologyand Apple is usually behind because they're polishing what Android has already done. take for instance, folders. Android users have had folders much longer than Apple users did. It wasn't until iOS4 that Apple users had folders. Also, the notification bar. Another thing that Android had way before Apple (which wasn't introduced till iOS5). LTE, another piece of technology Android had before Apple. Webcam over cellular, available on Android way before Apple and even then, it's only for over LTE. What Apple needs to do is take a lesson from Motorola on batteries and stop following what HTC does. ;-)

I also have battery drain issue, I barely make it through an 8hr work period without dipping to under 20%. However, I have noticed a significant difference when I uninstalled whatsapp messenger.. It didnt solve my problem but i was surprised of the amount of power i was able to save...whatsapp is a power hog!!!!

Your right. According to battery gate there Are 5 levels of resources hog. Whatsapp is level 4 resource hog. And for me whatsapp is an application which is 24 7. I'm not uninstalling anything. I'm tired of turning everything off. Instead I see myself not returning but changing to another brand in jan. bb 10 ? :)

I just wanted to let everybody know how I solved this issue on my iPhone 5 with iOS 6.0.2. My phone had drained from 100% to 0% in 4.5 hours while mostly on standby, and was getting very warm. This occurred the same day I started using the Social Chess app.

I really liked the Social Chess app, and didn't want it to be the culpret, but I uninstalled it nonetheless. Immediately, my problem went away! So, just because I was curious, I reinstalled it and the problem did not come back. Perhaps it was an improper install or something, but I haven't had an issue since, and the app is currently installed.

I don't know if everybody else here is using Social Chess or what, and no comments in the Social Chess reviews mention this problem, so I'm thinking it was an installation fluke. If you see this problem on your phone, try to think if you installed a particular app that day, and remove then re-install it.

    Cheers!
