Q: Can I extend my current, non-apple, wireless network, using a single airport extreme?
I have a Verizon FIOS router with a wireless network broadcasting throughout the house.
In my room I have a TV hooked up to an Apple TV. The internet reaches my room fine, but it is far enough away that the signal is weak, so when connecting my Macbook to the TV using the Apple TV the signal must travel far to reach the router and then back to get to the Apple TV. I set up an Airport Extreme in my room to share a hard drive and printer wirelessly, and also to speed up the connection to the Apple TV by hooking it up to the Airport Extreme via ethernet. That way the signal travels wirelessly a short difference to the airport and is hard wired to to the Apple TV. The hard drive transfers/backups also are much faster this way. The problem is that I can't get that new Airport network to connect to the wireless internet network that already exists. Is this possible?
Airport Extreme, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Unfortunately, you will not be able to extend the wireless range of the FIOS router with the AirPort Extreme ... at least, not if you want the connection between them to be a wireless one. Non-Apple routers are not compatible for this purpose.
