HT3302 My son dropped his Ipod touch and cracked his screen... Can the cracked screen eventually break apart and become a danger to him?

My son accidentally dropped his Ipod Touch, cracking the screen in 3 places.  Can this cracked screen eventually break apart becoming dangerous for him to use?  Can Apple replace the screen, and at what cost?
