Did you try creating a new user and then trying to print? It could be a permissions problem, but it is possible to prevent the printing of a document without preventing the viewing. Does this happen if you create a pdf file from TextEdit and then try to print?

Other users on the same computer do not have this problem.
I went to TextEdit, created a small document, and tried to print it by clicking on print and selecting my printer.
I get the same error that the file is protected by a password.

Try running Disk Utility/Repair Permissions. Repeat until it shows no repairs were made. Clearing the log in between runs can make the process less confusing.
If that doesn't work try the following which will repair your user permissions:
Permission rebuild user account: You may need to rebuild permissions on your user account. To do this, boot to your Recovery partition (holding down the Command and R keys while booting) and opening Terminal from the Utilities menu. In Terminal, type: reset password and select the admin user. You are not going to reset your password. Click on the icon for your Macs hard drive at the top. From the drop down below it select the user account which is having issues. At the bottom of the window, you'll see an area labeled Restore Home Directory Permissions and ACLs. Click the reset button there. The process takes a few minutes. When complete, restart.

'Disk Utility/Repair Permissions' isn't going to help for an issue isolated to a single user.
It's "resetpassword", not "reset password".

Can you paste in a screen shot of the dialog?

I should have thought of it earlier, but, I deleted the printer from the list of printers and added it again.
Now all is working again both from Preview and from TextEdit.
