Please look for your error in Pondini's Time Machine Troubleshooting guide. That should help locate the issue and tell you what to do to fix it.

You are not alone. I have the identical problem you do; I have a new 2-TB G-Drive external backup drive, using Time Machine but on OS-X 10.8.2 on a late 2009 iMac. The problem goes away when I eject the G-Drive and re-mount the drive. But then after I get a successful incremental backup, the failure and error message returns. I will also look at the link rkaufmann87 supplied.

I followed the guidance/instructions on Pondini's website to a "T." Doing so has not solved the issue for me. If you have any other thoughts about what I might try I would appreciate it. I worry I may have to just reformat the back-up drive and start over from scratch. Another thing I might add for your consideration: in my case I have configured the backups for encryption, so the entire disk is encrypted. I wonder if I must ensure that the pw is in all user keychains...it has not needed it for the first successful incremental backups.

You really should create your own thread rather than a "me too" as your situation can be very different than the OP's. What you are doing is called Thread Jacking and considered rude which I am sure is not your intent. Going forward please create your own thread.
Your issue may be with the G-Drive itself. My recommendation would be to try another EHD and re-test. If the problem disappears then you have narrowed it down to the EHD you are currently using. If the problem persists then please create your own thread and re-post.

Thank you so much for your reply. You are correct it was not my intent to threadjack! Please forgive my ignorance on that issue. It was my intent to be efficient in sharing info in this thread because I had the feeling my situation was probably identical to vsparrow's. Thanks again!
