Where can I find the 4.2.1 update for the 2nd generation ipod touch? I tried to update (and paid for) the 3.1 update but I keep getting an error. Help.

The icon for airport speakers is disappearing for me as well. Sometimes restarting works, sometimes not. Just now what worked for me was, after restarting, making sure the itouch was connected to the network before starting the app. When I did that the airport speaker icon was there.

I think i found the answer.
I have 2 ipods in the house, both 2nd generation. The second one is my girlfriends and hers was not showing the airplay speaker option in the music app. I logged her iPod onto my Home Share account as my computer is the one connected to the speakers. After that her iPod can now select the computer or the airport express in the house to send movies to.
Oddly the way to get a second device onto the Home Share network was to connect to my iTunes with the Remote app and back out to the library settings. From there on the top right there was a gear/settings icon that let me log her ipod into the Home Share network.
Confusing? Yeah.. but it worked and now both iPods can play music over the network.

I understand that there is a limit to updating older devices, but there are some things that Apple really needs to "back port." For example, I can give my son an allowance--but because he is 12, iOS 4.2.1 won't let permit him to sign in to his Apple ID to use his account.

I have the 2nd Gen touch model MB533LL I tried it earlier this evening and no airplay icon even though the IOS is version 4.21 and should support it according to the Apple support DOC.
I read thru these replies and they are very vague as most replies are on this site anymore.
Connect your touch to the Mac and have itunes open. Go to File/Devices and choose that touch and sync it. I think what happens is that home sharing for the network enables that touch to be included. Just my guess but currently I do have that airplay icon and it works for music, video and photos.
Hope this solves your problem. Also for some of you pliers please apologize to Apple for the cuts you made about the touch and Apple.

You did notice you are replying to a post that is over 2 years old?

A reply is a reply and the information stays important. What's your point?

My point is that the OP hasn't posted since the original post over 2 years ago so I doubt they are patiently waiting for your reply, which I didn't find to be any better than the ones made 2 years ago. You should be very busy answering all these old posts and helping all of us with our vague replies. Good luck to you and have a good new year.
