I changed my network configuration and things are so much better now.

    My old setup was

    iTunes Win7 - powerline1 - powerline2 - airport extreme - powerline2 - powerline3 - AppleTV

    iTunes Win7 - powerline1 - powerline2 - airport extreme - wireless - iPad

    My new setup is

    iTunes Win7 - wireless - airport extreme - wireless - AppleTV

    iTunes Win7 - wireless - airport extreme - wireless - iPad

I removed the powerline adapters (allow me to say, they are crap! 500mb in your dreams D-Link).  Since doing this I only encountered one problem where AppleTV stopped playing music and required a restart. The iPad is fine so far.

For an entire week my Home Sharing has worked perfectly. The trick? Leave iTunes open all the time. I know that if I shutdown or restart my computer I'll have problems again.

Sorry, I spoke too soon.  IPad artists are missing again.

I thought the powerline adapters may have been part of the problem.

Perform the usual tricks. Turn off Home Sharing everywhere. If you are on Windows, go to Add/Remove programs and right click, select Bonjour, right click, then repair. Same for iTunes. Enable home sharing again everywhere. I know that the first time you open Music or Videos in iOS everything lists. What I think happes is that if we close iTunes, or reboot/shutdown and try to access Home Sharing again, things go bad. I haven't shut off my PC in over a week and things have worked fine since.

...but on top of the library issues that many of us are experiencing, I wonder if there is a better app then the music app to govern this stuff...I stream with AirPlay, but from the remote app...without going on the Apple TV...I find that the remote app on top of being much more stable wrt the library issue, allows much more play around...such as queuing songs from different albums and artists...seems ridiculous, but I do not manage it with the music app...

    Any advices?

Go to Settings -> Music -> Tap on your Home Sharing Apple ID, and Sign Out.

Then enter your Apple ID again and password and tap done.

Then open your Music app and go to "More" then shared.

I got an iPad mini for xmas, and encountered this exact problem. I made sure the iPad wasn't using home sharing, quit the music app, signed out of home sharing in settings and now it works perfectly!

Seems we have to problems in the same discussion

One is from an iOS-unit how to see the music library. It looks like this has to be part of the home sharing set-up, and also maybe it's caused by the new sorting in iTunes. If you only see a few of your songs, then logg off homesharing and logg in again, you will see all of your iTunes library.

The other disussion was this. When on an iPad from the music app trying to search for an item, the app closes. Any one having a solution on this problem?

How many *%##$ obscenities do I (&#$)(*%@ have to )*&^@#$)*&% post here to get SOMEONE AT APPLE to )(*^#$)*&%#$)(* fix this. Perhaps when Steve died he should have taken the company with him. It seems noone there gives a flying )(*^@#% any longer about the (*^$@ that goes out the door.

Mac user for 18 years. Now very, very sad :-(

I'm a programmer. If a cache is borked, the software should rebuild it. In the (*^%% background. Without prompting- but with some user feedback AND A )(*%(*&%(&^$ great big apology dialogue...

Just )(*^$*&(^%)^$ it. It's been a bad day. Fixing corrupt fonts on my mum's new Air to get )*)*&%(&^$% MS Orifice 2011 working. Again:- if theres a problem... )*^)*&%% fix it- without the user having to work out how to do something the s/w could do so much better.

Mountain Lion needs the Snow Leopard treatment; not a single new feature- just make what is (meant) to be there work (again, like it used to...). And take the (*&)^*&#$^ fake leather sh*t off contact and calendars et al. Steve would have ripped the guy a new one who tried to put that in front of him. Graphics worthy of my 1984 Apricot Portable's OS.

Apple, up your game. Poor show. Need to try a bit )*(^)*&%%) harder.

@tomlawton, and I thought I was having it bad. Silence is not always the best solution and Apple is very good at that. I can only wonder what the next version of iOS will fix, or break. Scary as a matter of fact.

Home sharing on IOS6 is a disaster! My wife now has the iPad mini and the complaints keep on rolling in. I have wasted a lot of fn time on this crap. It just won't work reliably. Apple TV handles home sharing better, not perfect, but better.

I can't believe this got past QA. The music and video players on the iPad need serious fixing.

Maybe the share prices need to drop another hundred or two before they do anything?

I've taught my wife to use 8player instead. Lets see how that goes.

Yep.. it really feels like they've lost the plot... It seems QA is non-existent in the rush to add (or, often as not these days, remove..!) features. Tried using iPhoto as a source for screensavers recently? :-( In fact, tried using iPhoto at all recently. Buggy, unstable, embarassing :-(

After a rough start, I had years of succesful syncing, photo sharing, etc etc under MobileMe. I can believe the underlying code needed refactoring, but the way it's been handled feels more like a pogrom...

I don't believe these boards are monitored in any way, it would seem; there's no direct way to explain how horribly wrong everything is going. Hey- I even see that they've managed to implement a forum where OSX's usually fabulously-pervasive spellcheck doesn't work. That's a first for me...

    Sad, sad, sad...

Ahh well. iPhoto swirly-balling in the background... Assuming the programmers are too useless to write anything useful to the console log, I'd better google a few solutions for a dinged-up photo library :-(

    This has worked for me:

Go to Settings -> Music -> Tap on your Home Sharing Apple ID, and Sign Out.

Then enter your Apple ID again and password and tap done.

Then open your Music app and go to "More" then shared.

But it's not convenient...we need an easier fix.

I may have a new twist to the Homeshare problem to add to this thread and it would be interesting to see if anyone else has witnessed this:

Since I upgraded to iTunes 11 I have noticed that when another computer (mac or PC) connects to my iTunes library via Homeshare, the songs available to the 'client' device are limited to what is being filtered on the 'server' machine. For example, this evening I have been listening to Muse on my iMac and my daughter complained that when she tried to access my iTunes library from her own laptop she could only access songs by Muse and nothing else.  As soon as I when back to my full library i.e. without any filters she regained full access to my whole library.  The problem is not limited to PC clients either; my wife's Macbook Pro has witnessed exactly the same problems.

I have a mixed wired and wifi network using an airport extreme.  All software is up to date.  I cant imagine it's an issue, but I do have a large library of about 50,000 tracks...

The issue did not exist prior to iTunes 11...
