Please remind me how statistics work again.

Almost 100%?! You can find many posts that say they love the new iTunes, even in this thread, I'm not sure how that can add up to almost 100%.

P.S. Steve Jobs actually killed the Newton, John Sculley actually orchestrated the creation of the Newton.

48% did not like iTunes 11 at all...hmmmm... that is almost half of pollsters. How must Apple stubbronly retain a program that ends up getting thumbs down by almost half the sample base? Some folks who I have argued about iTunes 11 with say "Just deal with it, that's the way it's gonna be." They point to statistics, demographics, market share. I hate to think that I'm getting out of touch with the times, but I still think iTunes 11 was built upon the wrong ideas. We'll see what happens, but in the meantime, I'm going to continue to use iTunes 10.7.

If 48% is almost half what about the 52% that found something they liked? Presumably they don't count?

Don't let facts get in the way of a good argument.

Biggest POS they ever shoved on us. I (like a fool) simply downloaded it and now it will not recognize my Airport express or Apple TV. Went to the store and HW is fine. Worked perfect before Itunes 11.   Feels like installing a Microsoft upgrade - You get to waste a day or two trying to make it work. In our home 5 ipods, 5 iphones, Apple TV, 2 MACBOOK Pros, I mac and Aiport Express. Everything was perfect untill Itunes 11.

DO NOT UPGRADE UNTILL YOU READY IT IS FIXED.

In this poll, only 26% liked the new interface!!!

If it were me and I'd developed "the best iTunes ever", to get just 52% of my user base liking it would be a pretty big sign that not all was good.

I really hope Apple has the balls to face up to this problem. Like most here I have been very angry and resentful of the time this 'upgrade' has required to correct. Like many I have felt ready to throw in the towel with Apple.

But having calmed down and now fully restored 10.7 on both my main systems I still love my Apple kit. 10.7 is a joy to use and spectacularly quick after using 11. I just hope Apple has the common sense to re-evaluate what they were hoping to achieve with iTunes 11. Perhaps work in some sensible compromises to allow them the progress they feel they need but also allow the user base to continue to enjoy iTunes with the functionality and familiarity they are entitled to expect.

On a brighter note, I have totally rebuilt my iTunes library and manually restored all my play ratings. A bit anal maybe but I like detail. I would like to restore my 'date added' detail and have found an XML file of my library from May this year. Is it possible to extract that information from the old XML file and blend it in to the new?

Obviously, by 'tidying' my collection, correcting spellings etc., some music files are now in different locations to where the old XML file has them listed. So does anyone know how I can do this reasonably successfully? I fully expect some errors but I have full back ups of my current library so can revert if the damage is too great to correct.

    Thanks and Happy New Year!

I haven't uninstall this POS because I was expecting the updates that will fix this mess called itunes 11. However, apple hasn't launched anything yet (only that 11.01 update)

Do you believe that Apple will restore the functionality of 10.7 in this Downgrade called 11?

I am loosing my faith in the solution of this problem.

    What do you think?

48% didn't like it, 26% did say they liked the interface with the remaining 26% saying they prefered 'up next', 'Cloud integration', mini player etc. So my statement is still true.

This thread & the poll is about iTunes 11 not just the interface.

I agree 52% satisfaction is bad for Apple, I suspect Final Cut Pro X had worse inital feedback & the world never ended for that product. It would also be interesting to see how many respondents were refered from discussions such as this one. Apple just spent a couple of years back peddling to recreate the missing FCP features.

Hopefully they will fix the bad parts of iTunes 11 too. iTunes 11 doesn't seem to be a major rewrite of the application, just a hack & slash job on the existing codebase, so perhaps it is a stop gap until they can release a rewritten version that fixes the old flaws (why does the prefs window & the info dialog lock the app, can't you do multithreading Apple?).

The 'iTunes Library.itl' is the the master database, the .xml is just to allow other apps access to specific parts of the data. You should have a '~/Music/iTunes/Previous iTunes Libraries/' folder with the iTunes Library.itl from before each major update. Try restoring that file when iTunes isn't running. Also delete the .xml so it gets regenerated by iTunes.

You should be able to reimport the entire library by dropping the media folder onto iTunes (or via File menu > import). Or you can process just music by adding the subfolders, Music, Podcasts, TV Shows etc.

Any files that were not in the iTunes library should be added, and older files should keep the original date added.

Or you could try Doug's scripts…

    http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=musicfolderfilesnotadded2

Needless to say - have good backups you can restore before you start this level of modification.

I have given this issue some deep thought. iTunes 11 is the tipping point for me. I no longer identify with Apple. I will continue to use their products, I suppose, but I no longer feel like an Apple product is something I choose to use because it makes me feel smarter and more like myself. Suddenly it seems that an Apple product tells the world that I am hanging onto the past, kind of like a ponytail sticking out of a trendy cap hiding my bald pate... and that I am willing to pay a premium for the ruse! I own Apple stock, and I have just instructed my broker to remove it from my very short list of 'do not sell' securities. Yesterday I felt like selling my Apple stock would have been like cutting off an arm. Today, I could not care less.

How did you reinstall 10.7? Did you keep the orignal dowlaod? If not, do you have a link so I can uninstall and install 10.7?  I have it (as of last night) working with Airplay and Apple TV on Mac OS 10.8, but still no streamign from a WIn machine. Worked flawlessly untill 11....

iTunes 11 is soooo bad that I felt I had to write it down. I've never posted on any forum I dont think but i've been an apple user since 10 years and I'm starting to realize Apple is turning into PC... what a booomer.

Itunes 11: I can't see what's playing! I can't search as easy as I would normally do on the previous version. I click on one of the artist searches and it plays the artist!!! And its soo bad there's no an option to turn it back to the old design...

    Happy ny.

    Roger that crashanywhere.

I've been running my own investments for almost 20 years now. I have made a lot of money in AAPL. But (IMHO), the easy money has been made. AAPL has had its day in the sun and will never again enjoy those kinds of returns.

Companies have lifecycles. In my life, I've seen the likes of IBM, Sony, Microsoft and many others go from adolescent high return "golden boys" to stodgy overweight mid-life companies with tired ideas and beer bellys. AAPL is now entering this latter stage - lack of true innovation, executives more concerned with their own pay packages and sales (Jobs had a lot to say about sales vs. product focus in his biography).

Anyway, I wouldn't touch AAPL with a 10 ft. pole unless something changes drastically.

I don't know where the next true innovator will come from, but I suspect it's a company we don't even know about. GOOG is decently innovative I suppose. They seem to have some actual talent on board. Perhaps them. Facebook? Gimme a break.

I've sort of reached a detente with iTunes 11. I can finally manage my collection decently well, but it takes longer and more clicks. My collection is so big that I have to create temporary play lists to manage stuff.

I don't know what my next desktop system will be (I will always have a desktop system, tablets and phones are unacceptably unproductive for me - I have real work to do), but I suspect it won't be an Apple product. At least I hope someone has something better to offer in the next 3-5 years.

To me, Apple looks a lot like Sony did in the late '80s. Time will tell.

Uninstalled 11.0 and reinstalled 10.7. HOWEVER, my music was updated to a new format and now can not be imported. This is such complete and utter BS.
