I had it checked. Unchecked and rechecked it and it now seems to work (1 test). Where are the settings for sending new messages? That is, where does one select the Swoosh sound among others or is it selected automatically if the Play sounds box is checked?
Thanks, Dave B.

This is discussion is useful. However, the swoosh sound is missing from my new iPhone 5 (it was there at first) when I throw mail in the trash.
The provided solution seems to relate to those with Apple computors. I have a Windows XP comuputor and do not have the same illustrated page. (Seems to be an Apple page?)
Is there someone with an XP computor that can solve the problem of the "missing swoosh"? It worked fine until my son went to the Apple store and "listened" to ringtones.
Please help those who are trying to help Apple and XP be compatible....thanks!

If you want to change the swoosh sound to another sound right click the mail app and click show package contents. In contents open resources and find mail sent aiff. To change make sure new sound is aiff. file and label it mail sent then replace existing file with new file moving the original out of the contents folder first. Save old file if you want to return to its sound.
