I am trying to decide whether to use iWork or spend money on MS Office. I am looking for information to make the choice.

Thank you.

MS Office future on Mac OS remains uncertain.

iWork may be a safer choice on Mac OS.

For starters, iWork is half the price. It offers the same functionality as Microsoft Office, and you can even save files created in iWork as Word, PowerPoint or Excel files.

What do the people use with whom you need to collaborate?  If you are a student, for example, and all your professors use MS Office to give you assignments and read what you submit, by all means maximize your compatibilty with them by using the same thing yourself and not rely apps that just try their best to be compatible.

I have both.  With that said I only use MSWord to test my conversions from Pages.  I don't have to use it very often.

I have no intentions of updating my MS Word when, if Microsoft decides to bless us with another half baked update.  So if you feel you need it get the cheepest version you can.

iWork is superior graphically and has full blown spreadsheets in its tables. The templates are way superior to MsWord. I like the systematic organisation of the menus and Inspectors.

MsWord has superior features for collaboration, flow charting and annotations. Also it has an interesting ability to switch sets of styles, not quite there but I like the idea, unfortunately it is very slow to boot up and feels much clumsier.

There are many other options for Word Processor/DTP on the Mac, if neither of these quite fit the bill try some of the others.

    Peter
