My iMac came with v10.4 but also had a disk for 10.5 but I never installed it, didn't realize it was part of the package. Now a few years later I need to install the newest itunes for my daughter's iPod touch, but I cannot because I need OS X v10.6 or higher.  My concern is that if I update to 10.5, will I Iose all the pictures and files I have created on my account as well as all the files on my kids accounts?  Do I need to back them up before upgrading?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.4.11)
