I am unable to update several of my Mac App Store purchases without first deleting them and then reinstalling.  This is a presistant problem that I can't seem to work around.  I have trashed the pref files, and cleaned all the caches but I still have the problem.  I keep getting the message to sign in with the account that I used to pruchase the App.  I only have one account and when I delete the App and reinstall it the account is accepted.  I even contacted the Apple Techs and they were useless.  At one time the App Store kept prompting me to upgrade angry birds.  The problem is that I never pruchased it.  Is this my problem or is the App Store not ready for prime time?

You are using a pirated Mac App Store app. If you know what that application is, delete it. Some hackers insert their information with the apps and that causes that you see Angry Birds and a strange email address when you see the error after trying to update that application

I have no pirated Apps and I fixed that problem by deleting the App Store Pref file and cleaning all the caches.  The problem I am left with is that unless I delete the Apps (12) I am not allowed to update the Apps that show up on my account.  The App Store registers the App but will not let my update it.  How is the phantom pirated file linked to Apps that Apple acknowledges I have purchased??

So, If I have understood you, you have purchased the apps but the App Store doesn't show you that you have updates. Go to  > About this Mac, and tell us the OS X version you have

I purchased the Apps from the App Store but when the updates appear in the purchased Apps pane and I try to update them the app store gives me the message to sign in with the account that I used to purchase the App.  I have only one account.  I then delete the Apps and the App store then recognizes my account and lets me reinstall the Apps.

    I am using OS X 10.7.5

Contact with the Mac App Store support > http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/contact

I have Spotlight turned off.  I never used it.  Thanks for the suggestion.

Bad idea, the MAS needs Sptolight to function properly.

Well, I don't think their SoP involves working with warez...

Not sure what you are talking about.  What is warez...??

Warez is the use of illegal applications or something like that

What make you think that.  I am a 68 year old Clinical Psychologist who would not even know how to get the kind of stuff you are talking about.  Making gross assumptions about people you don't know is offensive.  You or people you know may have a problem with ethics but that does not mean all others suffer from the same malady.  This is last time I ask for help.  Thank you very much for your observations.

48 year old industrial psychologist here.

Sometimes folks have pirated apps on their Mac without knowing that they are pirated. They downloaded what they were told was a "free trial" or just a free version of an app that has to be bought from the Mac App Store (MAS). Angry Birds is a free app in the MAS, but it is a well documented app whose MAS receipt is used by app pirates to crack other apps, which they then distribute around the internet as free or free trials.

If you should ever get an update notice on your Mac for an app that you have never installed and you see the Apple ID of a stranger is required to update the app, then you definitely have a pirated app.

Your response makes a lot more sense than the one I got from Hackintosh.  The Angry Birds request has been gone for over a year.  The problems I am having now is with Landscape Companion, Pixelmator, Home Inventory and Comic Life2.  These are applications that show up on my purchase list from the Mac App Store.  I simply delete the Apps and then I am allowed to install the updated App.  This works for now.  I thought someone else may have had the same problem.  Seems I may have a glitch in my system.  I am going to update to OS X 10.8 in the next couple of days and this may solve my problem.  Thanks again for the explanation.  It was helpful.
