I am on Windows XP - I can't run Photostream. That's the way of the tech world. Moaning about it isn't going to change it.
All programms I ever installed under windows xp still run. If I turn on an old 18 year old pc with windows 95, it still runs all programms that are on it....
We are not asking for a new WhatsApp version, just let use use our old bought version. All it has to do is forward and receive some ascii signs, how hard can that be in 2013 since it worked in 2008 ??

I am quite confident that Apple seriously looked at the market before cutting off the iPhone 3g just as they do with all the other hardware they cut off from upgrades. If they don't see a large enough percentage of the market is on the older hardware it is cutoff from upgrade. It is just that simple.
The way I see the cutting off of the iPhone 3g it had to be such a small part of the market so as to be insignificant otherwise at least some of the developer might have been tempted to continue supporting it. In fact it appears they all left at the same time as Apple so the software for it literally dried up overnight.

I have also been locked out of WhatsApp today after I tried to upgrade to latest version on my iPhone 3G. Has anyone got a solution for this problem as yet?
I do not understand why they have to make us go through all this trouble. They could have simply refused the upgrade and just allowed us to keep using the older version of WhatsApp that we were happy using!
Lets hope we can get help soon....

Happy new year everyone,
not specially happy for those, like me, having an iPhone 3G with iOS 4.2.1., because we all have the same problem with WhatsApp.
After reading all the posts, from my point of view the fault belongs to WhatsApp, because there are many Apps which you can still run their later version on iOS 4.2.1..
From now on what's in our hands is to write to WhatsApp, I know many of you've already done, complaining about forcing us to use the new version. At the same we've to get in touch with Apple and get their support on the issue.
Thank you so much for your attention,

Are you for real? Can you actually hear yourself talking? Smartphones as we know them have only existed for 5 1/2 years. Total!
Go over to an Android forum... ask them how long they manage to get OS updates for their phones.

So your 3G does not currently work, does not browse the internet, cannot make calls, cannot send emails, cannot run ANY apps, right? No? Then maybe you should apply what you said about the 3G to other phones. I'm not being an Apple fanboy, I'm just living in reality, which is what you seem to be avoiding.

I'd be totally fine if case was that Whatsapp updated their app with new functionality and did not support older devices. Now however, an app working totally fine suddenly stopped working for whatever reason, and that kind of ****** me off.
There is a solution to this, sadly it seems like I'm not allowed to post this as it involves jailbreaking.. However try to google "install 4.3 app on 4.2.1" and hopefully you'll manage.

I already tried this, but when I download it, it says that can't install and the app will be availabke when I connect to itunes, but when I do this, nothing happens, and trying to install it from itunes doesn't worl either.
