I recently purchased the upgrade for Garage Band on my 06 iMac.  I received a huge library of sounds with the upgrade.  However, two days later, we had a power spike and I lost that computer.  So - I bought a New MacBook Pro Retna with the latest version of Garage Band on it, however, it is missing what seems likes hundreds of real instrument sounds.  Any suggestions?  Can't seem to find a way to downlod all thode extra great sounds like strings and sound FX.

Thanks.

What kind of upgrade did you buy? Jam Packs for GarageBand, like "Symphony Orchestra"? They are not included in the preinstalled version that comes with a new mac.

it is missing what seems likes hundreds of real instrument sounds.

Are loops missing or instruments? If loops are missing, do they appear to greyed out in the loop browser? If they are greyed out, have you pressed the little arrow to the right of the loop name, to download the additional content?

To be able to download the additional content, you have to accept the preinstalled iLife to your AppleID at the AppStore. Sign into the AppStore, go to the "Purchased" tab - "Accept" section, and press the "Accept" button for your iLife apps.

If it are the JamPack, that are missing, post back please.

What it seems like is that with my previous upgrade, I got a free Jam Pack included - There were lots of extra strings including trills, pizzigattos, and such.  Does that sound like a Jam Pack - perhaps Jam pack 1 - EXPANSION?

That sounds like the JamPack "Symphony Orchestra" - and that is included in Mainstage 2. Buying Mainstage is perfect - if you like the Symphony Orchestra, you will also enjoy the "World Music" JamPack with all the ethnic strings, flutes, and percussion instruments. You even get backpipes!
