I hope you realize that this thread is in:

Apple Support Communities > iTunes > iTunes for Mac > Discussions

    and:

JRiver Media Center 18 Ver. 18.0.103, 22.8MB. Windows 2000, XP, Vista, Windows 7, Windows Home Server, & Windows 8.

  • MaxSeven777 Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

Yes - I made an edit.

One could still do that though - Bootcamp with Windows 8 and use it soley for managing your music collection.

I mean no disrespect, but many of you  come across as defending Apple by dismissing problems users are having, or proposing blatantly innefective solutions that do not address the problem, and then declaring them solved, trying to wipe the problems under the carpet.  Many of you seem more concerned with declaring the problems "solved" than actually reading what the problem was in the first place.

I love this topic... its like a bitter custody battle.. LOL  J/K had to break some ice...

It doesn't have to be.  But there's a clear attitude here of denial and defensiveness which is frustrating because it would be nice if this thread was a petition of sorts for cover artwork rather than a bunch of excuses and false fixes.  Now it's turned into criticising those unhappy with itunes11 for using it in the wrong way.  Someone even said a couple pages back that all the issues here are user error.  Give me a break.

I'm gonig to go ahead and repeat that all itunes11 did for me was remove album artwork and require more mouse clicking.  I'm left with the same song view, but with no album artwork.

Maybe itunes12 will get rid of song view and album artwork all together and turn the interface into a moving screen saver where artist names float around on the screen at random and you have to catch one with the mouse to get it to play.  The font and the graphics will be gorgeous.

your opinion is valid and I have not read every reply to from the same judgement but I think people are fustrated on both sides.. I think peple who can't find the fix they want are fustrated by the recomendations and I think the people who are making the rcomendations are fustrated by the lack of coperation people have for trying a new product.  Also, I feel its in how you read the words. I had said something along the line of " the art work the bottom left is gone, so lets get use to it" and it was taken as if I was being dismissive.. which I am the opposit. I can totally identify with how fustrating this chage has been. I don't care about a few extra mouse clicks at all.. I am just happy I can view my music in a list view formatt with the art work on the left.

But the one lesson I have learned is wait until I upgrade and read the forums prior

The sad thing is that when I heard about itunes11, I had a bad feeling about it and imagined them doing exactly what they did to it.  Making it simpler, changing the look for the sake of changing it, and removing features to make it more like the iOS interface.  It seems I've got a good understanding of the direction apple is going in and it's not good.  They seem to have started listening to their marketing team rather than their UI team, and they used to be famous for being one of few companies to put UI first.  Making their iOS and OS systems look the same regardless of usability is a marketing decision.  It's like the car companies that decide they want all their cars to have the same grill, so they put the same grill on everything from minivans to sports cars.  And it just makes them all look worse because design wise, what works best for a minivan does not look best for a sports car.  But they do it anyways, they bring all the models down because the marketing team wants to create brand identity.

    Same thing is happening here.

I didn't want to update, but decided I had to because I was troubleshooting a problem and wanted all software up to date to eliminate possible problems there.

I'm not dissmissive of help.  But no one here has offered anything that actually fixes the problem this thread is about.

Time to start thinking about an alternative application.

I just have no idea why so many at Apple think that using a tablet/smartphone with a touchscreen is anything like using a desktop/laptop with a mechanical keyboard and mouse/trackpad.

But remember, the VP of iOS software got fired recently. Craig Federighi is taking over Forstall’s iOS position, and he will also lead the OS X division.

Hopefully he realizes that they are two completely different interfaces.

Tablets and smartphones are all about content viewing. There's still a huge space where desktops and laptops are also content creators.

"Tablets and smartphones are all about content viewing. There's still a huge space where desktops and laptops are also content creators."

    Exactly.

One thing I forgot to say in my previous post is that my iphone is actually now much better to use than itunes on my huge 30" monitor.  All that space plus a mouse and it's more cumbersome.  I've got genres -> artists -> albums just like I want on my iphone and the tiny iphone screen actually has much bigger artwork than itunes when itunes is in song view to have the same organizing functionality.

Only thing itunes has over ipod is the ability to use column browser in smart playlists.

Excellent points. The thing that kills me with Apple is that iTunes has become a huge and bloated application. It is over five times the size of Media Monkey and JRiver’s Media Center and cannot compare to their features and functionality.  With every update, comes the loss of flexibility and features.  ITunes is less of a music management tool and more of a storefront fighting for your attention. Its management of various music formats is almost nonexistent.  I can go on and on… Apple should simply eliminate iTunes as a stand-alone application and offer it as a secure web-based service. Again, Apple does not care about comprehensive or full-feature music management; it designs iTunes as a means to measure customer buying patterns or activity, period.  In other words, iTunes is designed to be your portal to the world.  As this terrible program devolves, you will see more intrusive elements surface while user control continues to be eroded. I have 2TB’s of perfectly tagged music and I no longer bother to import it into iTunes.  I only import a bare minimum of the music I am listening to at that given time.

    Hello rhythmdevils.

I think that is the point. You want to have this thread as some kind of petition thread.

But this forum is not made for this. This forum is made to troubleshoot and find solution or workaround. I think nobody here works for Apple and can change things inside iTunes. Users here can only try to find solutions to handle the current status of the software.

I have no idea why they actually deleted some feature like coverflow or the artwork in songview!

So it  helps not to be frustrated, or act like Don Quichote fighting windmills here in this forum, but having heads up und live with it for the moment. There is no other way!

And -very important- if you or others are so frustrated about this current situation complain at "apple feedback" hoping Apple will hear the frustration.

Float the feedback site, so it may help changing Apples view!

Complaining here again and again does not help. I think you know what I mean.

Please don't be frustrated about users who wants to help handling the current situation.

You see I have a different view to this problem.

  • grufnmuf Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

Sorry gerhard, but that's why we aren't bowled over with gratitude at your efforts to help...you don't have a "different view of the problem" - you are, in fact, IGNORING the problem and that's why we're so frustrated with your myopic attempts to "help us". If the best solutionyou can come up with for the ACTUAL problem is to simply "give up and accept it 'cos that's the way it is..." - OK, that's your input read and acknowledged.. but that certainly doesn't mean that we have to OBEY you.

the original post in this thread is..

            Nov 29, 2012 2:11 PM

For me, iTunes 11 is much worse than iTunes 10.

You can no longer view album art by selecting a track in list view.

In list view, album art is invisible — the album art square in the lower left-hand corner is gone. So unless the track is playing, you can't see album art. This is terrible news for people who need list view, like DJs. People like me who rely on album art to remember what an album is, can no longer just click around and see the covers. This was a tremendous memory aid, which is now gone.

Now to see album covers, you have to either play the track, or switch to grid or artist list — which show either no tracks, or very few tracks.

    Bummer."

and I cannot see anywhere that you, or anyone of the other many "helpful experts" have addressed those issues.. but I CAN see, over and over again, where you keep dismissing our complaints as 'whining" and now "Quixotic" (it's an X not a CH) - lemme tell ya.. it's a SUPPORT COMMUNITY - perhaps if people like yourself were to actually acknowledge that there IS a REAL problem.. an actual issue to be dealt with, rather than simply trying to steamroller over the COMMUNITIES opinions, concerns and politely expressed displeasure. This is not the only thread in Apple Support reflecting these self-same concerns about iTunes 11.

Stop telling us to use feedback.. we've USED the feedback option... we're doing this AS WELL AS FEEDBACK....

you are right! support in the meaning of help. not in the meaning of complain

You are steamrolling the community by only complaining! There was not one single suggestion from your side until now.

I tried to help, handling some of the problems, not the original one, because there is no help.

But we are off topic now and should stop here.

    regards Gerhard

BTW: Don Quichotte is german transcription, did not know there is a different one in english. But thanks for this -oh first good suggestion from your side - point :-)

The English name is Don Quixote ... And yes, it's time to call a halt.

  • grufnmuf Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

I apologise, I was under the impression that this was a PEER TO PEER community, didn't realise that particular individuals had the right to simply dismiss others as being "off topic"...

glad you finally admitted that you weren't trying to "handle the original problem" - but if some members of the community wish to use this Apple forum, (and that's what it is) to voice their concerns and objections to Apple updates to Apple software or hardware, how come YOU get to decide what's acceptable content with regards to the topic.

If anything it is "our side" (when did we draw SIDES here?) who have stayed on topic and those with the degrading comments who keep trying to move the conversation away onto fixing problems that weren't particularly expressed in the origin of the thread.

like it says in the TOS for Apple Support Groups...

"Constructive feedback about product features is welcome as well."
