When downloading a word document attachment in Safari, it downloads as text format. Is there a way to change this?

No.  The web site you are downloading from, dictates that.  What is the file extension of the document you are downloading, and what are you trying to do?

If the document is plain text, then that would be the file's format and has nothing to do with how it's downloaded. If it is a real Word document format and is downloading with a .txt extension, then that can be changed.

Who is sending the document or from what site is it coming?
