I FREAKING HATE IT!  if you search for an artist or song it should populate the results in the library, not some little pop up box that they have now created.  it annoys me every single time!  I also miss the album artwork on the bottom left corner.

No, not at all. You can stretch it out slightly, but it retains the horrible hover controls.  Why on earth would they chose to diminish functionality and information when the real estate remains the same?

Oh right, did not know that. I'm just smug and glad I went back to 10.7 for my main 2TB library. I have 11 on my laptop which links to a removable mini HD so I am now 'test driving it' there. However, I have not come across convincing reasons to upgrade my main library again to 11.

    Ok, I have 10.7 as a .dmg

Do I need to use pacifist to load it back on?  And what do I need to do to make sure I don't loose anything in the process regarding the library...?  If you someone could do a quick bullet point walk through please.....

Yes! the pop up box is a hatefull invention. It took less time to search for a track and play it on the older itunes now you have to go through this stupid box it takes longer, how is that an improvement? aint broke dont meddle.

Quit iTunes. Open Pacifist, drop the dmg on it. Select install within Pacifist and answer 'replace' to any prompts from Pacifist. Then open iTunes and you'll see 10.7

First removing iTunes 11 with something like appzapper and taking a back up of the iTunes folder and all of its contents including itl , xml and media files.

I did this twice, first time successful and then after trying 11 again, unsuccessfully and ended up with a corrupt iTunes library. I then had to start from scratch with a new library, adding all my media and losing playlists and playcounts and ratings in the bargain.

    Buyer beware.

You don't need to AppZap anything. Pacifist does all the work. It's a two minute job although I would back everything up as a precaution. I've done it on two machines with zero issues.

That method isn't so straightforward.  At a guess there are a few thousand files or folders that prompt "can't be replaced....stop or continue".  This route will take forever.

There is an option to 'apply to all'. Take that.

It's as though someone wanted to impress their ego on iTunes. It used to be that new versions were born out of the insight to see how iTunes could be made even better. This version reeks of "Look what I can do!" It is really horrible to work with.

The popup search box is not very useful to me, but it's simply a preference that can be turned off forever in 2 seconds. Click/hold on the magnifying glass icon and deselect "Search Entire Library." Bingo. Back to the old search.

To me the real complaint is not that Apple changed the Search functionality, but that the UI designers made the new way the global default, then hid the preference by giving it a nonsensical name. Who would want to turn off searching the entire library? Who would think that the plain English meaning of "Search Entire Library" would refer to how the search results are presented in the UI?
