Currently Being ModeratedApr 7, 2011 4:17 AM (in response to Duuuuuuuude)i had the exact same problem. On a hunch i went trough time machine and discovered that the mac hd folder had a folder named tmp before, but not any longer. somehow it got deleted i guess.. anyway, i simply made a new folder called tmp in the macintosh hd folder and rebooted. Then the dragging of anything started working again.. Dunno if the tmp folder helped or if it was just the reboot, but i already tried rebooting without effect.macbook pro, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

I had the same problem on one of two startup drives. Neither drive showed a visible "tmp" folder, nor had they shown them previously, but the one with the OS that worked properly had a hidden folder with that name, wheras the one with the OS that had the problem did not. So I created a visible folder of that name on the latter drive, restarted, and the problem went away. I think I'll leave it visible but take away everyone's permissions to prevent it from being deleted.

OS X 10.5.8 iMac 2.8 Core 2 Duo. Working fine at midnight,
Carbon Copy Clone occurs daily at 4:00AM
Problem at 6:30AM:
Could select items by clicking on them once, but would not click and drag in the Finder, or between applications. Additionally unable to copy or paste anything in any app,
After scanning log files and doing compares to backup I found that /usr/sbin/pboard was corrupted.
Simply sudo'ing a copy of /Volumes/Backups/usr/sbin/pboard from the backup drive immediately resolved the problem. Interestingly no reboot being necessary, I was able to click and drag immediately after copying the file across.
Hopefully this will save some else some pain.

I had this problem, the fix was simple. - Go to Devises Macintosh HD folder, create folder called tmp - This solved my problem, I remembered deleting this folder previously. Hope it works for you.
