I think it varies from person to person. In my experience if I download a movie in the morning, it can take 2 to 3 hours (for a 1080p movie) and up to 9 hours or more to download after 3:30pm up to midnight. It can be very frustrating when you have to pause and then try to continue downloading the movie again and again. Last night my download said it would take 628 hours!!! I got there eventually and it probably took about 11 hours. My internet connection is lightning fast, so it is not my connection but the iTunes servers causing this slowdown in downloading. Having said all that, you may have a completely different experience and download a movie very quickly. I'd be interested to know how long it takes you.
Right now, I'm trying to download a 1080p version an episode of the TV series V and it says that it will take 14 more hours and I've already been going for about 6 hours and I'm up to 661MB out of 1.78GB. It's Friday afternoon here in Oz (5:45pm) so everyone is probably trying to download a movie for tonight.

If you mean from Apple iTunes, then the comment from onebaretree meets your question. If you are downloading from anywhere else it will depend on your internet service provider, your paid for level of service and of course, the level of activity in your service area.
