Did you buy an actual unlocked iPhone 5 or a Verizon iPhone 5 (which has the SIM slot unlocked)? The Verizon phone, even though the SIM slot is unlocked, is not a true unlocked phone. There are known problems on foreign networks, including issues with SMS.

I am travelling in India and once I insert my Airtel sim I get a message saying the following.
I am not sure why I get the "No Service" after inserting the SIMs.
Any thoughts on what I can do next?
Does anyone know what the procedure is to activate an iPhone 5 on Airtel network?
I am using unlocked iPhone5 from Canada.
