No. The unlocked iPhone 5 sold in the US is not compatible with European LTE networks. You can use it on 3G an HSPA+, but that's it.

Note that when comparing prices you have to include the sales tax you pay in most US states and the VAT (and perhaps import duties) you'll almost certainly have to pay when you bring a foreign-purchased device back to the UK. This will probably make the price differential minimal if any. Given that you also would not be able to get any service for a US-sold iPhone in the UK, it's probably better to just buy your iPhone there in the UK.
