Thanks, Steve. I now have a "Recenty Added" SmartList. But the m4v file that I've asked iTunes to Add to Library doesn't show up in the new SmartList. When I search the iTunes Library, the requested m4v file is simply not there. When I drag the file into the iTunes Library open to Home Videos, the window is outlines in blue (just as normally when you add a file), a green plus sign appears next to the dragged icon, and then absolutely nothing happens.

I'm moving from discouraged to disgusted. Do you have any other ideas?

Unless there is something wrong withthe movie file. Does it have any strange characters in the name?

Nothing wrong with the name: "MaidenFilm.m4v" so I think it's not a naming issue.

I downloaded and launched Subler, opened MaidenFilm.m4v, optimized it, and tried again. No difference except that now, when I drag the file from the Finder into the Home Video window in iTunes, the green plus sign does not appear. The window still gets the blue outline, but no plus sign.

I tested the Subler-optimized file with Quicktime and it plays just fine, so I don't think it's a corrupt file format, either.

BTW, I could not find in Subler any way to fill in tag information.

In subler with the file opened click on the Magnifying glass top right and it will search theMovie Databae or TV Database for the tag info. Click OK select the artwork and then when infio is back in subler window

Click on the other settings in the middle and you can set Media Kind, Content Rating and HD type

    File> Save

    File > Send to itunes

This then should transfer the file to itunes

    Hi Steve,

Thanks, I found how to tag the file. I saved the file. I asked it to send to iTunes.

    It didn't.

I'm giving up, something I don't usually do, but I've invested too much time fruitlessly. I've also wasted a good deal of your time, too.

Thank you, Steve, for all your efforts on my behalf.

Can you re download the film?

Regardless the Subler helps put a load more info which is very useful when viewing through Apple TV.

Sorry we could not resolve it.

    UPDATE: Success!

Well, I guess I didn't quit after all. Here's what eventually worked:

    1. converted the m4v file to MOV.

    2. edited the beginning and end of the clip (which were black frames) using TRIM in Quicktime [I'm not sure that this editing step was necessary for this whole protocol to work -- probably not]

    3. exported from QT, selecting the "iTunes" destination (this took about 25 minutes)

    4. went back to iTunes and there it was.

Again, Steve, thanks for all your patience and good advice. I agree that Subler is a gem; thanks for that recommendation, too.

With my Mac, it is definitely caused by iCloud syncing.

If I turn off wifi, forcing any syncing to stop, any missing files recently added instantly appear. Once the files appear you can switch wifi back on. This is far simpler than adjusting settings, etc.

Not sure why that does not happen on my machine. The Wifi is on and I have no issues. Do you mean iTunes Match rather than iCloud because I do not use that.

Store > Turn off iTunes Match

If that does the same thing as turning off your wifi then that is the issue which we will have to wait for Apple to fix.

Had the same problem, and turning off iTunes Match solved it.  Thanks for the help!

I had this problem too but I think I have found the source of the problem.

After I imported some movies I noticed the iCloud icon (next to the Library selection popup) was showing continous activity. This made me suspect the problem was something to do with iCloud syncing.

I went to iTunes Preferences -> Store and unchecked Sync Playback information across devices and my recently imported movies immediately showed up in the list.

Great answer, i had this same problem and now since i used your advice it works fine. Great advise

I'M not by techie but here's what's going on with my iTunes library.  My Dell laptop crashed & the repair shop reset to factory.  I was backing iTunes up to a portable hard drive (great I thought).  When I went to restore all I got was my playlists.  All were empty but the titles were as they were b4 the crash.  I started to manually re-add movies but the only movies coming thru are e movies that were never associated with the library prior to crash.  I hope this clues the experts in...thanks in advance for any help!
