Q: iMac G4 speakers

I have an iMac G4 with the Apple Pro Speakers. However, since I have a newer Mac, I now use the iMac G4 as an external monitor via the "ScreenRecycler" app. Because the speakers are only compatible with the iMac G4, is there any way to use the speakers while the iMac G4 is being used as an external monitor?

i would think so. you would have to run a hard line from one imac to another. and set your sound input away from microphone to line in. i think i could do it using spin dictor which comes with toast but there may be a free version of something out there that would work. use your g4 to control your volume.

Hi britny. What do you mean by "Hard Line"? So, just to recap, I have a MacBook Pro with Retina Display running "Screen Recycler" and an iMac G4 as an external monitor with Apple Pro speakers and I want to use iTunes 11 on My MacBook running Mountain Lion but have it come out of the Apple Pro speakers in case you didn't understand.

hard line? a wire. from the headphones port on your macbook to either the sound input on your imac or an imic (google it) if you want it to come into the imac via usb. i've never done this but i think it would work. have no clue as to whether your screen recycler would interfere with this. i think that in the past that i've played records on a turntable through those pro speakers before. same principle.
