Hi, I am running Outlook on Office 2011 for Mac on my MBP and wish to configure it for icloud mail.  I am halfway there it would seem, as I am receiving mail from the imap account into my inbox, but cannot send. I have tried overriding the default port, setting it to 587 and checking against SSL, but it returns an error message, 'an unknown error has occurred', which is no help I am afraid.

I gather icloud mail setup has some stringent setup requirements I seem to be unaware of.

If anyone can run me through the full settings for servers etc I would be very grateful - thanks guys!

Dave

    Have you by chance tried a different email program just to see if it is a problem with outlook or what you are entering in the setup systems.

    That article seems fairly straight forward.

    Is outlook being used to access a MS exchange server also?

    Thanks Csound, but I already entered those settings and I'm still getting th error message and sometimes this one:

    5.7.0 No AUTH command has been given.

    Cannot send mail. The SMTP server does not recognize any of the authentication methods supported by Outlook. Try changing the SMTP authentication options in Account settings or contact your network administrator.

    Account name: "Icloud"

    Error code - 17092

    Gateful for any help - baffled!

    Post a screenshot of the SMTP settings you are using please.

    Your last sentence may explain all your problems. It may be the connection you are using that is causing that error.

    As ever, grateful for ideas as to what Outlook is seemingly objecting to - thanks (btw I am abroad at the moment and internet access is 'sketchy').

    Well it not just the bandwidth. Even with a fast connection there can be errors. And not all countries allow full access to the internet.

    And there are countries that have the most SPAM coming out of them. Could be the server you are connection to sees the connections as an attack of some type and blocks it after it first connects.

    Hi Csound, these are the settings I'm using;

    Now, strangely, I can send from the icloud account, but every time it sends and receives it appears to function correctly, but is throwing up the error message each time, see below;

    @'Shoot..' - I agree the instructions DO seem straight forward and as far as I can see I am complying. I am also woking with mail, which being Apple's own is syncing correctly with my two mail accounts, I wanted to get Outlook working fully functionally so that I could decide which worked best for me. Also, Outlook syncs nicely with my icloud account online, enabling exchange of contacts etc between my MBP and PC, hence the reason for wanting to keep it.

    Settings appear correct ......

    Outlook is not compatible with iCloud services, it is not "syncing"online (to check put a new event or  new contact in iCloud, do it on the website, you will not see it in Outlook)

    I don't use iCloud but I do run Mozilla Thunderbird on both PC and Mac and am very happy with the way it works.

    I may not work with iCloud calendar but then you have the calendar program on the Mac.

    In which case, can anyone recommend a good mail client that does run on the PC and is compatible with icloud?

    Outlook on a PC is compatible with iCloud, Outlook on a Mac is not (go figure)
