Hi folks.

I want to get windows for my mac to run some games, but a lot of places suggest that windows 8 isn't supported on boot camp whilst others suggest that windows 8 does actually work! Does anybody know whether it will work? I don't want to shell out on an old version of windows if the newest one works!

    First item here. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1899

Windows 8 will work if you install it using a virtual machine like Parallels, Fusion, or VirtualBox. It will not work using Bootcamp Assistant.

I know that Windows 8 is not supported but the Win 8 Preview has worked ok for me since it was released - I am using it now with BootCamp on a MacBook Pro. So does the Win 8 final release not work where the Preview did?

Correct, the preview and the release are different software, sometimes one works sometimes the other.

    Install Win 7

I am running windows 8 (released version) on the iMac and it works with one exception:  AMD graphics drivers do not support Bootcamp for Windows 8.  AMD refers you to the Apple support page and Apple says Windows 8 is not supported.   I had hoped to play Battlefield 3 on Windows 8 but screen refresh rate for existing drivers is terrible.  Everything works well except for the game.

Csound1 is absolutely correct that Win 8 is not currently supported in BootCamp and that certain Win 8 release functions may not work - but not being supported does not mean it is not useable if you are understand that it may or may not work in your particular software / hardware environment and are willing to take the risk. Certainly some software/hardware will not work until Apple Win 8 drivers are released. The comments I have seen make me think that the positive experience I had with the pre-release version will be the same when I switch to the final release later this month. The only concern I have is the notebook heat issue at least one user reported, so I will monitor system temps more closely than I usually would.
