My entire library was purchased in the U.S. all apple except the P.C. I went out and bought an apple T.V. home sharing device. I can't get the thing to play my movies here. I've checked eveything the enabling icon everything. Is this some kind of licencing thing? If it is it's crap. It's as if I bought a pair of glasses that won't work the minute I leave my house.

Is it just moviesor do you have any connection over home sharing with the apple tv.

For basics check they are on the same network, apple ID and home sharing is on.  Reboot all devices INCLUDING router (take all cables out of ATV for 30 Secs) and let us know if that doesn't work.

It should allow you to play your content from your library although I don't know Japanese law, confirm it is you itunes library and not another format.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.

ToU for iTunes states that you can only access content from an iTunes Store whilst in the location of that store.

Hi Winston, does that mean anything I purchase becomes invalid if I move country.  I know you cannot purchase from a store when you are not living there but if I buy a film surely I own it as I would be able to take a DVD with me?

If you move, you have to move your iTunes account to the local store.

It's all a little unclear really, Japan, so far as I am aware doesn't yet have iTunes in the Cloud, although it does have a movie store.

I know for example US servicemen have been able to purchase whilst abroad in the past, but it seems as though Apple may be tightening up on this.

The ToU's are quite clear though. I'm looking on it at the moment in the light that if you have run a red light before and got away with it, you shouldn't necessarily expect to get away with it next time.

all that's required is that I must maintain an American billing address for my account.

Unfortunately, I think you misunderstand that part. My understanding is that you require a US billing address for a US iTunes Store account, but it doesn't guarantee you can use your account in contravention of other terms of use.

    From the Terms of Use.

The iTunes Service is available to you only in the United States, its territories, and possessions. You agree not to use or attempt to use the iTunes Service from outside these locations. Apple may use technologies to verify your compliance.
