I am having the same issue with  my iphone connecting to my home network.  It connects intermitently and then drops the connection.  I called Apple this morning and they ran a diagnostic on my phone and said it was a bug in my OS that I got from the internet and the only way to fix it was to pay $99.99 for the software protection plan.  I'm very aggitated and have currently refused to take that route until I research further.  I thought the OS was a closed system and therefore no bugs could "penetrate" it.

Okay, so I have tried ABSOLUTELY everything to get my iPhone to connect to WiFi and, naturally, nothing worked. I even reset my router and changed the password. Before doing that, I did all of the resetting and restoring on my phone too. Can someone help explain (IN DETAIL) how to manually try and connect my phone to WiFi or anything else to try? Please help!

Did you try putting your phone into the freezer for about 10'? I am not joking. If this solves your problem as it did for me then its due to the fact that iOS 6.0.1 runs a bit hot for the specific wifi chip that was put into your phone. The good news is that iOS 6.1 beta 4 seems to fix the problem.

my first time purchase of a apple product (iphone 4) was yesterday and my wi-fi worked great at school.  i get home and I got the gray wi-fi icon.  contacted my brother, who has a 4s.  showed him everything....couldn't figure it out.  i looked on youtube and on here and tried for hours....nothing.  then I did the following:

    • turned off wi-fi
    • turned off cellular
    • then did a "reset network settings"

    then once it rebooted

    • turned on wi-fi - (put my password in)
    • turned on cellular

(not sure which one of those I did first, but I believe I did it in that order. don't know if it matters.)

it actually worked for me!  what the???

I really hope it works for everyone who reads this.

it worked! heck yes!  it better keep working!

very disappointed in my first purchase from apple.

    IM DONE WITH APPLE.

When I get the chance to upgrade/change phones I'm taking it!

I used to love my iPhone, now I can't stand it. Nothing works, and I'm tired of losing all of my data, pictures and videos because I need to restore my phone to connect to wifi. I've never ever had this problem with my iPhone 3 or my first iPhone 4. I paid enough for this defective phone, I don't think I should pay more for technical support. Apple, you just lost a customer.

I don’t know why I have to keep posting this, but I will try and save you all heartache. The problem, which seems to he fixed in ios6.1, is that the phone is slightly overheating the wifi chip which happens when doing a restore or doing anything over wifi. This will mean that either the wifi can't find and network or even white out.

I know it sounds silly, but if you put your phone in the freezer for five minutes or so (till the phone is quite cold to the touch), then the wifi will work again. Now its not a great solution and I even had to do a backup to iCloud whilst still in the freezer a few times because the phone overheating during the backup, but it should solve the problem most of the time.

At work it was a standing joke that I would regularly go to the freezer to get my phone!

Anyway, I updated to ios6.1 beta (I'm a developer) and so far the problem seems to be solved. I suspect that ios6.1 Wurlitzer be released soon so this issue will be done.

my phone was brand new out of the box for about 5 hours.  it could not be because of overheating.  i went to school and it worked fine.  then i didn't use it for over an hour and when i got home i wanted to try out my new phone, the wi-fi would not work. i never did a restore.  i didn't do any network reset to it until after hours of searching on youtube and google to see how to fix it.  the way i described worked for me.  hope it works for others.

Just fixed that same problem of my own for future people with this problem. Simply go into settings, then general, and reset your network setting! Simple

Well, none of the suggestions have helped in my case, but I did just solve the issue, thankfully. What a HASSLE!! This isn't rocket science!  Like others, I've been very frustrated and if anyone from APPLE reads these messages, the company has been very remiss in not providing the solution to this seemingly global problem.

What worked for me:  My WPA and/or WEP password never worked. But, what DID work, was entering my NETWORK SECURITY KEY.  I found it under Netowrk Security Settings. I don't know what made me try it, but bingo!!  Instant connection and no problems ever since. To make sure I'm on wifi, I've set my iphone's data transfers to be wifi-only.

Hope this helps some of you who are still frustrated!!

Hey everybody. So i just got a 4s and i had the exact same problem. I kept searching around for results on how to fix the problem. Nothing worked. I restored, restarted, all that crap. Until i read about something saying put it inthe freezer for around 10-20 minutes and the wifi button will work again. I thoguht it was stupid. But i was desperate. And It really works. Im not even joking. Whoever came up with the idea of putting it in the freezer is a genius. take your cover out and put it in a plastic bag and into the freezer. I put mine in the ice dispenser where it'd get colder faster. do it. it works.
